Training Cadres

Hey all, I just had a question about the training cadres that will start a chapter.

1) How big are they?

2) Who do they consist of?

- Would there be specialists? i.e. Librarians, Techmarines, Chaplains, etc.

- Would a dreadnought be included in the cadre?

3) Does the cadre stay with the new fledgling chapter?

Thanks in advance lads.

It very much varies, we have no one answer to this question

1) How big are they?

- as big as you want, but, will not be above around 15 or so marines I should expect

2) Who do they consist of?

- Would there be specialists? i.e. Librarians, Techmarines, Chaplains, etc.

- Would a dreadnought be included in the cadre?

Yes, I fully expect there to be some sergeants, especially from the Tenth, a Captain to lead, and at least one specialist, including an apothecary

Dreadnoughts: could do, not sure if it would, as Dreadnoughts are uber-revered in the Chapter, and rare, so, would they give up a Dreadnought?

3) Does the cadre stay with the new fledgling chapter?

again, depends on the chapter, they dont always, I think they get the choice. Many do (especially ambitious captains who most likely will never become Chapter Master otherwise) choose.

Agreed with the above. Logic says to me that the cadre will include at least one of each of the specialists to train the new Chapter's command staff.

I'd guess at:

Captain (Chapter Master, if they stay)

Chaplain (Master of Sanctity)

Epistolary (Chief Librarian)

Techmarine (Master of the Forge)

Apothecary (Chief)

Anywhere between 5 and 20 veteran Marines (Sgts)

A large number (perhaps in the hundreds or even thousands) of non-Astartes Chapter personnel, with different groups aiding all the different specialists of the cadre.

Various armour, equipment, vehicles and/or ships gifted from the parent Chapter (the rest coming from the Ad-Mech, either all at once or gradually)

I could see there possibly being more than one of some of the specialists depending on the nature of the parent Chapter (more Libbies from a Librarian-heavy Chapter, etc), and especially the Apothecaries given that they'll have the vital task of creating the new Marines for the new Chapter.

I would also add that the size could vary from chapter to chapter, and more importantly from Captain to Captain.

Say a captain wants to run things a little differently from his parent chapter; he might elect to take as few people as possible, on the simple basis of less opposition to his proposed changes.

On the other hand, a Captain who wants everything run the way it was 'back home' might take as many veterans and specialists as he can get.

EDIT:

Typo. Grr.

Thanks for the replies guys, they're much appreciated. I think I'm gonna go with a cadre of around 23ish:

Captain (Chapter Master)

Chaplain (Master of Sanctity)

Epistolary (Chief Librarian)

Techmarine x2 (one become Master of the Forge)

Apothecary x3 (One becomes the Chief Apothecary)

15 Veteran Marines (Sgts)

not to mention the aforementioned misc & specialist mortal personel, and servitors.
