Jorre
I had a good game vs my chaos demons mate tonight and thought I would attempt a battle report since I have not done one before. It was a 2k point game, Annihilation with Dawn of War deployment. Blood Angels Mephiston Reclusiarch Corbulo Storm Raven Furioso with Talons 3 x 5man assault squads in Razors with 2 x Las/plas 1 x Twin Las 6 Assault Termie's 4 with thunderhammer 2 with twin lightning claws in a landraider crusader Las/Auto Predator A fairly small but very Killy List, The plan was to deploy the landraider and Pred with the razors in a corner and keep meph the furioso and storm raven together in reserve. Force my opponent to wade through the guns then knock him out with Meph and the furioso if they got to close. My opponent had Blood Thirster with wings Keeper of secrets Soul Grinder Nurgle Demon Prince Tzeench Demon Prince 2x 3man flamers squad 2x 10man Demonette squad 1x 8 man Plauge bearer squad 10man Blood Letter squad 6 man squad of really fast demon horse men of slanesh (forget the real name) Looking at his list I was terrified of all the Monstorous creatures. If they got anywhere near my mostly mech army I would go down fast. He got first turn, which was great for me I hate going first vs demons. I deployed nothing on the board opting to bring everything on in the first turn except the storm Raven with Furioso and Meph which I left in reserve. Demon turn 1 Not knowing where I would come in he spread out his forces. He brought in his Keeper of secrets, Soul Grinder, 1 demonette squad, 1 plauge bearer squad and 1 blood letter squad and the Tzeench Demon prince. They all deployed away from my table edge since he wasnt sure where I would come in. Blood Angels Turn 1 I brought everything I could on the right hand flank to try and keep as much space between me most of his already deployed squads. His guys where along way away and Night fighting was in effect, I tried to use the search light on my pred to light up his demon prince for my heavy weapons, but no luck. I failed to spot with all my rolls and no damage was done. Demon Turn 2 Next he got another squad of Demonettes and 1 squad of flamers in. Luckily the Blood Thirster and other demon prince didn't come in yet. He didn't have many guns and what he did have was all out of range. So pretty much everything ran towards me. 1 squad of demonettes and a single Tzeench demon prince had come across the half way mark of the board on my left flank with a squad of Bloodletters just behind them. Everything else was still either behind large peaces of terrain or on the other side of the board to my force. Blood Angels turn 2 My Storm Raven came in. Seeing how little he had on the left flank that could kill a armour 13 dreadnaught I decided to strike on his left flank. If I could take out the demon prince with my long range weapons and storm raven, the dreadnaught could dominate that entire flank (Great in theory). Things started pretty badly for me here. The Dread jumped out of the Raven ready to assault the Demonettes While I moved the rest of my army to take the demon prince down. I kept Meph in the raven thinking I wouldn't need him yet (Big mistake). Every gun in range I had fired on that Demon prince one after the other! I watched in horror as he passed invul save after invul save. I wounded him 14 times and the infernal thing survived with 1 wound left! Leaving meph in the storm raven would now mean the end of my furioso and my dreams of a glorious slaughter on the left flank! Not before he tore 9 out of the 10 demonettes to peaces in the assault phase though. Demon Turn 3 His Demon Horses and another squad of Flamers came in. This was another fairly quite turn for him. He moved all his guys forward again his soul grinder, Keeper of secrets, demon horses would all be in assault next turn. The Demon Prince assaulted my Furioso, but failed to destroy it. He did rip of 1 blood talon off and imobalise it though. I failed to do any damage in return. The Soul Grinder assaulted my Storm raven but needing 6's to hit didn't do anything. BA turn 3 I made another big mistake this turn. I really wanted to save my dread so I jumped Meph of of the raven to attack the demon prince before he could be finished off (right infront of 10 Blood letters). I moved the storm raven away from the soul grinder, I unleashed all my Blood strike missiles and the Las at the Keeper of secrets, wounding him 4 times, but again he made every save! Luckily the multi melta put an end to the soul grinder and the resulting explosion killed the last demonette. The 3 Lascannons on my razors took a single wound off the Keeper of secrets and Meph finished of the Demon Prince before he could kill my Dread. I decided to keep my terminators with reclusiarch and corb in the Raider for one more turn I didn't know where the Blood Thirster would turn up yet and the keeper of secrets was looking awfully scary since my shooting was relatively ineffective. My apologies, but this is taking way longer to write than I thought so I will have to finish it off tomorrow when I have more time.

Jorre
I just remembered the real name of the demon horses! They are chaos Fiends! Thought I'd write it down before I forgot. Will finish the report as soon as I get home
Jorre
Demons Turn 4 The Blood Thirster and Nurgle demon prince finnaly came on deploying as close to me as they could. I now had a Keeper of secrets which luckily rolled a 1 for fleet and failed to be in assault range, a Blood Thirster and a Demon Prince all right in my face. To make matters worse Mephiston was then assaulted by the squad of 10 very angry Blood Letters. I had hoped to kill enough of them before they struck to save him from certain death! Mephiston wounded 4 of them, but again my opponent made 3 out of 4 saves on a 5+ so I only managed to kill 1. He went down in a single round of combat, I really did not use him very smartly, and Meph paid for it badly! His Fiends of Slannesh rolled a 6 for fleet and ended up storming 24 inches across the board and wrecked my Predator! 30 str 5 rending attacks on your rear armour is not fun! These fiend's would need dealing with as next turn they would be tearing apart my Razorbacks. He also jumped both squads of Flamers over to my poor dreadnaught and Glanced him to death! So turns out I sacrificed Mephiston for nothing! Blood Angels Turn 4 My luck really changed for the better this round and it swung things back in my favour! The keeper of secrets(thanks to the failed charge) and a squad of Flamers were set up perfectly for a multi assault from my Chaplin and Terminators. The lightning claws went to town on the flamers and the chaplin and Thunderhammers went after the greater demon. They stomped them all into the ground and I only lost 2 Thunderhammers in reply. My storm Raven Unleashed on the other flamer squad wiping them out. My Landraider Fired everything at the Blood Letters leaving only 3 alive. I decided I would have to use one of my assault squads with razor as a decoy or I would Loose the whole lot to the fiends. I moved them right next to the Fiends and jumped out, I fired everything I had at them and with some incredible rolling Completely wiped them out. I didn't have the resources left to deal with the Blood Thirster or the Demon Prince, but hopefully they would take the bait and go after the now much closer Razorback giving me a bit of extra time. Demon turn 5 My terminators where assaulted by a full 10 man Demonette squad and the 3 remaining Blood Letters, The demonettes and Bloodletters both struck before me and managed to wipe out all my terminators and made 2 wounds of my chaplin. (I probably would of won this combat if I had not have forgotten to get Corbulo and my FnP bubble out of the Landraider). The Chaplin tried to finish off the Blood letters, I managed to hit with all 4 attacks, but my maniacal laughter turned to bitter shock when he failed to wound with a single hit! I lost the combat buy a huge 6 wounds, luckily my chaplin passed all 6 fearless saves! The Demon Prince took the bait and went after my assault squad easily wiping the lot of them out. While the blood thirster went after my land raider! He came up short on the charge by half an inch! This would be the nail in the coffin for him. BA Turn 5 I turned both the land raider, Storm Raven and 2 Razorbacks on the Blood Thirster and blew him back to the warp! Now I no longer had to worry about str 9 greater demons attacks! The now empty Razorback managed to take a wound off the last demon prince, and my chaplin passed another 6 armour saves and 2 rending saves against the demonettes. With rolling like that he might actually survive! I decided to target the Blood Letters since they were now striking after me and could still kill my chaplin. I rolled another 4 hits, before yet again failing all 4 rolls to wound! The Blood Letters then mercilessly cut him down! Demon turn 6 The game was pretty much over at this stage I think I had 8 kill points and he had 6, but I still had alot of guns left. All he had at this stage was a single demon prince, 3 blood letters, 10 demonettes and a squad of plague bears that were still trying to get to my side of the board. The Demon prince assaulted my empy razor but it had moved 12 inches and he failed to hit it. The demonettes fleeted 6 inches and managed to hit one of my other razors they only managed a Stunned/shaken result though. While the Blood letters and plague bearers ran towards the action. BA Turn 6 It was time to mop up! I moved both remaining assault squads out of their razors to target the Demon Prince, he went down with the help of the 2 Razorbacks that could fire. My storm Raven and Land Raider wiped out the Demonettes and last of the Blood Letters. Leaving only a squad of Plague bearers on the table. The game ended and I had won 11 Kill points to 6 Final Comments I did make a lot of mistakes this game, but I think the fact my opponent was so spread out ment it took him way to long to get his forces to my Mech line. A really lucky 4th turn really knocked the wind out of his sails and probably won me the game. I hope you enjoyed the report, and forgive my lazy spelling/grammer! Father Mapple
Great battle report. I love the Mephiston and Furioso inside a Stormraven, but it is hard to prioritize and make sure the right one of those two is fighting the right counter. Good job, and look forward to future Battle Reports from you!
BigBaals
Great battle report! As a BA and Daemon player myself it's awesome to see how the matchup might end up! Daemons can struggle with mech if they aren't prepared but they do very well against infantry. I use a very heavy slaanesh build with lots of fiends, daemonettes, princes, etc. so there is enough rending/fleeting/flying/Calvary to catch and deal with it. Sad to see Mephy get smacked so hard! Almost everything Daemons have can chew up any MEQ, especially Letters'. They don't have grenades or fleet though so out manuvering them is key (or shooting them, but that's the bane of all daemons anyway). Good batrep! Enjoyed! AbusePuppy
One odd thing is that you don't seem to have solid cargoes for your LR and SR; the LR obviously delivers the Termies, but the SR doesn't have anything to carry except Meph, which he doesn't need because he's already quite fast. You're also running two HQs and Corbulo, which feels like sinking a few too many points into characters for my taste. Good job on the win, though- as always with Daemons, keep moving, focus fire, and make them assault through cover and you'll usually triumph pretty handily. You don't really have enough bodies/tanks to do a "castle" deployment, which hurts you a lot against them, but you do have some fast-moving units, which is a boon. As you say, you made some mistakes here and there, but you did a good job baiting and blocking him with your tanks from the sound of it, which is very important.
