Coopervisor
Well I have been struggling with using the BA codex, i've squeezed a few close draws out, but last night was the first time I had won. My list was as follows (1750 split into 5 "drops"): Dante Lib - Jump Pack, Blood Lance and Might of Heroes Sanguinary Priest - Jump pack Sanguinary guard - Chapter banner, infernus pistol Sanguinary guard - infernus pistol Honour Guard - 4x Plamsa guns, Jump packs RAS - Jump Packs, 2x Meltaguns, Powerfist Sanguinary Priest - Jump pack VV - Jump Packs, 4x Storm Sheilds, 4x Melta Bombs, 2x Power weapons, 2x Lightning claws I faced a deathguard force with 3x 5 man plague marine squads, 2 in rhinos, 1 led by necrosis in a LR Proteus. 1 Blight drone, 1 TL las/HB pred and 2x nurgle comtemptors I really thought that with the melta proof LR and the restrictions on the reserve rolls I'd stand no chance. However I managed to get both objectives and leave only his LR on the table after 5 turns! Mistakes I've made in the past included bringing non DoA troops along, either drop podding dreadnoughts, mephiston or RAS in razorbacks. They always mean a split force and I'm picked off unit by unit in easily manageable chunks. This time I got 4 units down on the 2nd turn (only the VV failed to arrive on time) and surrounded his castled force with Dante's SG squad on 1 flank, the RAS on the other and the honour guard right in front of him. The other SG squad dropped away and behind cover ready to move on the objective in my deployment zone. I guess I was lucky, even with re rolls, to get a 5+ for 4 units on the 2nd turn. Things I've learnt: Dante has so many good points in a DoA list, including hit and run, the nerf on a IC, precision BS5 infernus pistol, SG as scoring. Plus with the chapter banner and might of heroes cast on him, he was a combat monster. Throwing out 8-10 PW attacks at Str 5, I7 on the charge. I think for the future I'll maybe convert a couple of SG to have powerfists as those squads are limited when facing things like AV13 dreads and drop the melta bombs from the VV. They went after the LR anyway and so the melta bombs were useless. Anyway, just wanted to express my delight that I managed to finally win a game :D
JamesI
Well done Coopervisor. You are right that Dante offers so much to DOA lists. I resisted for a long time, but have surrendered to the wonder that is Dante. I don't recognize some of the units your opponent had. Forgeworld stuff? Necrosis is a nurgle sorceror from one of the Vraks books I think. The contemptors give him a chance to use non crazy dreadnoughts (and they're a real pain to shift, lot of points but very tough) and the LR Proteus is an updated LR with additional rules and upgrades. Claws of Corax
I'd be interested to hear how you do against an army with pure Codex list. (No Forgeworld) Did you remember the DoA rule allows you to re-role reserves role? Most forget it (They remember the 1d6 scatter) Claws
