Time To Get A Chapter Started?

Hey All,

I was just wondering how long does it take to get a chapter off the ground and deployed? I realise that with a small training cadre, many of the first marines will either help train others once they have been trained, and then once the process is fairly well underway the Chapter's first engagements will be squad and eventually company level.

Also, where do all these new marines come from? Do the Martians just grow a chapter full right away? and is the chapter ready by the founding date? or will it be ready X years after?

Thanks in Advance.

The AdMech gives the cadre geneseed and the initial ships/armor/weapons/etc. The cadre then goes and finds some recruits, implanting the gene-seed and starting the process of building a chapter. After the first initiates have received all the necessary organs and what not, they start their first engagements as scouts. They earn the Black Carapace, and form the first marines of the chapter. The chapter builds up from there, continuing recruitment and growth. It is possible that the AdMech takes the first batch of recruits and implants the gene-seed themselves, handing the cadre a decent number of scouts to be trained as a Astartes, but no one really knows for sure.
