Dan Sly
d Karma b: Haha! thanks mate! Wasn't expecting such a great response  I am really pleased with him, my vanguard will have a similar look, but a little more streamlined I think. I'll be painting some more today, so won't have to wait long ;) Here's the link mate. Zinge Industries Olisredan: Cheers :P Managed to get the vets finished this morning. Finished Sarge Vet and Weapon Specialist, what weapon you say? Every weapon. Two normal vets The way I see it, with regards to the backpack ornamentation, it would be like before the battle each marine is entrusted with a relic of the chapter to carry to war, being all inspirational and scary to the enemy. - Dan - Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241668-ultramarines-project-log/page/3/#findComment-2939962 Share on other sites

Zinge Industries Perfect for sternguard, and the double drum works on storm bolters. The drums are brilliant. So I finally got the Libby finished! Fairly pleased with it, few things that im not 100% happy with, but hey, that's life! Olis
So impressed with the ammo drums, I ordered some. :P Â Good painting skills with the libby (purity scrolls still need to be squiggled on) and that squad looks good - very uniform (it's the extra bits you've used). :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241668-ultramarines-project-log/page/3/#findComment-2940547 Share on other sites

Dan Sly
Olisredan: Thanks mate, yeah I'll do the squiggles when I've got some squads done to practice on, I want to try and emulate the looks of the old medieval books with the coloured letters and things wiht the book on his shoulder.  Zinge: Cheers!  haha, glad to hear it, that sounds like a terrible way to spend a weekend :P and I'll happily accept a nice low 10% advertising commission ;) haha i'm joking. blackbabyjesus
Have also ordered plenty of ammo drums! Dan Sly
haha, the power of B&C indeed! Just glad I could help some people  Been building like mad, so far got termies, sternguard, tac squad, scouts (with helmets) command squad, commander and terminator chaplain ready for priming, just got a rhino, an assault squad, a venerable dreadnought I picked up today, and my VV to build, doable tonight I think haha! On that note, here's my first test model for my Vangaurd, hopefully I have captured a similar style to the Sternguard, well that's the plan. Sanguinary guard were used, with anvil shoulderpads. What do you guys think? - Dan - Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241668-ultramarines-project-log/page/3/#findComment-2942128 Share on other sites
Olis
I think if you want him to look less Blood Angel-y, you'll need regular jump packs. I must point out, however, I don't like the Sanguinary Guard jump packs, so take that with a pinch of salt. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241668-ultramarines-project-log/page/3/#findComment-2942135 Share on other sites
Dan Sly
Haha, pinch of salt taken, but I do know what you mean, I'm hoping after painting they should look less BA, but, I'll leave them separate so if all else fails, I can buy these:  Pre Heresy Style packs from Maxmini  Which definitely wouldnt have a BA look to them.  Dan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241668-ultramarines-project-log/page/3/#findComment-2942139 Share on other sites
Forgefather Vulkan
These are really nice Ultra's and i'm not usually a fan of the boys in blue, my only advice would be for the vet guys shoulder pads is maybe to put like a tiny strip of plasti-card and craft a sort of downward plate to cover up the gap.... Dan Sly
Time for an update! Today I decided to crack out the airbrush, and see if I could get everything blued up to save me going insane doing it all with a brush. Priming time! With squads blu-taked to wooden disks priming took me about 5-10 mins for everything. And here we have the Sternguard wearing their new colours, It's quite hard to tell in the photos but there are 3 layers of sirbrushing going on, (they may possible be too subtle in real life too) base coat, then first and second highlights done in a Zenithal style, next job is to go in and shade with purple wash, to push the shadows deeper, then a few glazed highlights on the plates to make then look more like the libby, then some edge highlights. Should have photos up tonight, goign to be brave and try and tackle 30 marines all at once. I've ordered forgeworlds Ultramarines transfers and icon sets, which leads me to a problem i came across with the vets. With their new shoulderpads, I was thinking of having the 'U' on their knee pads? and possible on the sarge's cod-plate-thing. Once again all comments/abuse welcome, can't wait to hear people thoughts. - Dan - Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241668-ultramarines-project-log/page/3/#findComment-2942756 Share on other sites
Olis
I think the knee-pads are the obvious choice, given the lack of pauldron-space you have. I don't see a problem using the knees. And yes, the cod piece. It does have a conveniently empty spot on it. :D  going to be brave and try and tackle 30 marines all at once  Thirty at once? Good luck with that. ;) (I can barely do three at once, let alone thirty.) Alpha PTP
going to be brave and try and tackle 30 marines all at once  Thirty at once? Good luck with that. :P (I can barely do three at once, let alone thirty.)  I'm lucky if I get one at once. I'm always like "I'll totally just do a table top quality on this. I don't care," but then I end up trying to turn every model in the squad into a Golden Daemon entry. :teehee:  The blue on your librarian has so much depth compared to the most recent marines. I hope that you are going to shade them down using glazing, then give them some fine edge highlighting. Also, there is a mold line on the beakie's helm. Dan Sly
Olisredan: That's what I thought :P Also the plan went to hell, sternguards are now stripped, decided to cut my loses when they weren't working out and I'll re prime this week. Â Alpha PTP: Haha that's me all over too! Yeah those guys were only base coat, also didn't help the colour came out much darker than my libbys base coat (could have something to do with using the wrong blue but shh) but, the terminator ive started has come out nicer, luckily the tac squad, scouts and termies came out lighter, so fingers crossed they are ok.
