Karack Blackstone
Hello all, been a bit for me on a topic. Basically, I was looking for chains to use as Bolter harness swings for boltguns on my Grey Hunters. Let me explain fully my thoughts. From the two outer and uppermost corners of the backpack on a Grey Hunter, where some Wolf Tails and Runes hang from on current edition models, hang a chain instead down below the backpack. These two chains, one from each side would hold a small framework, made from what I don't know. This simple or elegant frame is where a GH can safely harness their boltgun when not in use. Seeing as I can't get pictures done, and have no example yet: o---o - Hang a chain down from each circle. That's basically it; the top of the backpack outermost parts would have chains hanging. From them, sling some kind of quick store support frame for the bolter, and voila. Bolt Pistol and Chainsword would logically have places on the belt to stow them. The only bits set I've found so far that could support this idea is the "Ork Fixin's" bits off the GW main site, bits for 40K. Any other good lengths of plastic or metal FIXED chain? Motion could be a problem, and storage would be a pain, likely. Still, I plan to see what I can do to get some bits and maybe model one up sometime soon. Maybe more of a visual would help, for all I know. Considering that out of all the bits out there, and money is as usual for us here often tight, I need to try and get this done as best bang for my buck as possible. Thoughts? Examples from others might truly help, if anyone can model one up really quick, or has had this idea, and I'm Stand-Alone-Complexing it. Max_Dammit
As far as i know marines Maglock there weapons to there armour. As for chains, I used all kinds but the forgeworld is the best i have, I doubt forgeworld makes it, but they sell it the pelt's are hung from the chain from forgeworld http://members.home.nl/maxdammit/40k/Razor/Left.jpg http://members.home.nl/maxdammit/40k/Razor/Backpack.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241769-had-an-idea-that-i-think-could-look-really-nice-however/#findComment-2921280 Share on other sites
Karack Blackstone
Thanks, Max. I was just thinking of an easier carrying situation than just a maglock. Most models that I've seen for Space Marines don't really seem to have a place for their boltguns. As far as where the Bolter would be, that Long Fang in the second picture on the right is the correct area for where I was planning on. Forgeworld chain, as in plastic, resin or metal? I'm about to go look, just wondering what I'm going to find. Edit: The chain that Forgeworld has seems to be actual links of chain. How easy is this work with? Chain itself does not sound too easy, and I myself have little conversion experience. Just curious seeing as there are always correct bits to use; as always, the issue is finding the right ones for the job I want to do. Will real chain work, or am I better off with non-moving lengths? I'm getting the urge to try both types out and see what happens. Either the fixed, immobile lengths from the Ork Fixin's bits set will look nice but be utterly useless in terms of actual application, or the chain mentioned will look nice but make the model difficult to store. Sounds like the real chain may just be the better way to go. Thurne Shadehunter
Your best bet honestly is sculpting chains from green stuff. The process is deceptively simple and would provide a stability real chains would not. Taeken
Actually working with small diameter chain is very easy. I would say give it a try. Most hobby stores will have a few sizes. Usually near the scale ship building section. And if you dont want them to swing or move just dab a little superglue onto the joints. Key is a little bit of glue, so you wont see it. Especially after painting. As far as the links of chain, this makes things easier. Super glue them, then. Thanks for all the feedback all. Definitely going to look into this now.
