Brotherhood banner Rules

I have recently been looking at Draigo lists for my GK's. I am not too sure about if i can post the exact line from the codex. But on page 89 the codex mentions that a banner will replace the standard weapon. Because i cannot find any reference to the banner being a weapon, does this mean that the bearer cannot make any CC attacks?

I ask because in Fantasy a banner bearer can still make his usual attacks. It is a core rule.

Just wanted to clear this up.

Regards,

A model can always make close combat attacks if their profile gives them 1 or more attacks. In this case, the banner barer may not use a Nemesis Force Weapon since he is now carrying a banner, so all of his attacks are counted as normal close combat attacks (no weapon bonuses as he is just using his fists).

The above responses are accurate. :)

My memory is (as always since grad school ravaged it) dodgy here: a model can elect to not fire any weapons during Shooting; can a model elect to not swing any weapons in Assault? In this case, it would deny your opponent wound allocation ability (no vanilla hits alongside the swarm of fw hits).

That would be nice. Not to derail, but WOTC's D20 system is dependent on their ruleset to make money...hence their extreme levels of attention to it. As is often said, GW's money maker is models...so those get all of their attention. :tu:

Anyway, yea; the banner isn't a force weapon but still hurts when it thocks you in the face.

Unless, of course, you're wearing power armor :tu:

That's one of the costs for the Banner- +1 attack for everyone, but the bearer's attacks (even with +1 above normal) are less than amazing.

Which means players usually do a little cost/benefit analysis before getting one. If you buy it for a small squad of 5, then you gain 4 Force Weapon attacks for your squad-mates, but lose the two from the Banner bearer. If you lose a single Terminator prior to getting to close combat, then you are only netting a single extra attack, and would have probably been better off without the Banner.

However, for units of more than 5, then the Banner really starts to become worthwhile; even moreso when you attach an IC.

Of course, the auto-activation of Force-ID might make it worthwhile regardless, as might the "rule of cool", which often overrides other factors.
