Swiftclaw bikers? Yey or Nay

I'm considering adding a pack of swiftclaw bikers but i'm wondering.

In all my games i think i've seen bikes used maybe twice by space marines...

Allways in Eldar lists.

What i'd like to know is of any specific moments where swiftclaw bikers have made a real diference or some other act of heroic valor that most people will never find because they refuse to pay the money and points for the bikers B)

I have used them with some success and quite like them.

While I can't remember too accurately where they have been most glorious, they have taken out annoying snipers at times and work great as rapid response support troops when a unit is in trouble...

A fully kitted out Swiftclaw Biker squad with Wolf Guard on Bike and Wolf Priest on bike comes out to about 533 (give or take depending on the upgrades you choose, can be less).

A 14 man bloodclaw pack with wolf guard and wolf priest in a land raider comes out to about 610, again depending on exact loadout...

I guess it depends how you want to use your blood claws: rolling thunder or mobile nastiness... I think both are good options.

swiftclaws was the first thing i tested and i got to say if you use em right they are evil.One guy in my LGC can vouch for that. I used them to help Logan out and they worked awesome. If you are going to get them get the white scar biker pack.its $5ish cheaper than the standard biker quad

For those sorts of points I would prefer a 4 man thunder wolf squad with a wolf lord for the natural strength 5 toughness.

Though you get a 12 man, T5 unit. That can:

->Move 12 to 18" (TWC can move same speed, but relies on luck, and charge).

->Cover Save of 3++

->Lots of Twinlinked Bolter shots

->Plenty of attacks that can be re-rolled

->Lots of Meltas

Sure, TWC are good, but you should never dismiss Swiftclaws on what they can do.

AND can move 24" with turboboost. This is definitely NOT to be underestimated. It is one of the best things about the bikers. Sure the TWC can move 18" - but only if they can assault - otherwise they are stuck at 6+d6. Turbo means you can put your bikers exactly where you want them and cause your opponent some headaches.

The other thing to think about, is you can get yourself a decent biker pack for about 200 points. Wolfguard biker, powerfist and combimelta. 3 Swiftclaw melta. Attack biker, multimelta. I think that is a lot of bang for your buck. They DO need support though.

+1 to this. Don't invest a lot of points in the pack because they will die to mass shooting regardless of the 3++. Try to add in a Wolf Priest on bike instead of the Wolf Guard, that way the swiftclaws are decent at CC and also being Fearless helps a lot.

Like HDL mentioned they do need support! As awesome as my swiftclaws were they didn't survive long so I have included two LS Typhoons into my list to back them up. Hopefully they make a difference.

I agree, Swiftclaws work better in small numbers, they are quite destructive this way and are not supposed to be used like assault units, but hunter ones!
