Small Far Away
I like Drop Pods and Terminators. The fact that I can put a Grey Hunter squad in one and with the other makes the whole thing even better. But, how can I make it work. I don't need to beat face, but I'd rather not lose every game. Thanks in advance! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242012-drop-pods-and-terminators/ Share on other sites
Simo429
The best thing I like with drop pods is a suicide wolf guard squad 3 man, 3 combi meltas to go for any nasty enemy armour you just have to kill Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242012-drop-pods-and-terminators/#findComment-2924668 Share on other sites
LPetersson
You have to work with the terrain and know how to maximise your initial impact. YMMV, but I would recommend 3+ pods at the very least. Half, rounded up, comes on in the first turn, so you need whatever comes on to be able to survive, so you need to either have enough targets that some will survive or put them in enough cover that they are likely to survive. I like to deploy a couple of empty pods and have the rest come in in support of my main force. If I go all out drop pod krazee, I'll usually put 1 termie pod and 1 grey hunter pod + however many I must put down, down and see how the terrain works for me. I also like to keep a unit or two just to take objectives as the last pods to come down. Good luck, and get some Lucius drop pods from Forge World :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242012-drop-pods-and-terminators/#findComment-2924689 Share on other sites
LPetersson
And while I remember, personally, I don't like the idea of suicide units (It seems like a waste to me), but, if you're running Logan, you could have a few small WG units with combi meltas or plasmas to deliver a seriously brutal alpha strike... Valerian
Another hint is that you want to try and achieve 'Mass' on the enemy forces at a chosen point of contact, and not allow him to mass fires on you. So, analyze the terrain and disposition of enemy forces, and determine where you want your Pods to land which will allow you to focus on a small portion of enemy forces, while shielding you from receiving the brunt of enemy firepower in return. Spacefrisian
Iam running a suicide unit at the moment, 10 greyhunters with 2 plasmaguns. Expansive yes but if they can knock out a heavy target and draw alot of enemy fre to them (3+ units), iam happy. WG Vrox
1500 Rune Priest in TDA MH & Jaww 6 man GH- MG / Banner & WGTDA Combi-Melta / CF DP 8 man GH- MG / MotW / Banner & Arjac DP 8 man GH- PG / Banner & WGTDA SB/PF DP 2 speeders 1 HB 1 HF 1 MM 2 speeders 1 HB 1 HF 1 MM 3 speeders 5 HB 1 MM 6 GH 1 PF 1PG in Razor Back HB Just a matter of placement usually mid flank and let the shock and awe factor hit them, If you don't have a good alpha strike target for Arjac have him come on a reserve roll. Use the GHs in the Razor to secure a rear objective and the speeders to support your Drop Pod units. Speeders can Deep Strike as well if you feel the enemy list calls for it tactically. ICHD?
I think the best Pod-related reaction I ever got was when I took 3 units of blood claws, fully tooled up with Lukas the Trickster leading one against a IG player. His jaw just dropped as Lukas and chums gnawed their way through command squads, ogryns and storm troopers alike. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242012-drop-pods-and-terminators/#findComment-2927578 Share on other sites
red_starrise
Drop Pods are very much a strategic shock & awe asset more so than anything else we can field if you ask me. That being said, I probably don't use them well enough because I only have two: 1 loaded w/ a dreadnought w/ MM, HF, DCCW, the other loaded w/ WL TDA w/ wolf claw & WTN, 4 WG TDA - wolf claw, 2 combi-weapons, chainfist, 2 power weapons. I usually drop my dread first turn behind cover near enemy back lines & then when I bring my wolf lord down I try to do so in a good spot where they don't get focus-fired the turn they land but typically close to where the dread was if it did a decent job of softening the enemy up.
