Deliverence lost extract

I have to admit, I was skeptical when I heard Gav Thorpe was doing it. Despite Angels of Darkness I am a big fan of his stuff. However, after reading this extract and a few other shorter ones, and a glowing review I am actually looking forward to it now. Horus Heresy seems to bring out the best in all the authors. They know they have to step up a notch.
well, lets have a debate about that. Then we can talk about Sanguinius haircolor and wether Limited edition novellas are a good thing or not... ;)

In the meantime I would like to know what you thought about the extract from Deliverance lost.

5,000 Marines in the current timeline of 40K? Impressive amount of firepower. 5,000 Marines in the Heresy timeline? Drop in the bucket -- especially considering that those 5,000 are the survivors of the 80,000 who made planetfall at Isstvan V (plus some Alpha Legionnaires). So yes, the Raven Guard are quite weak right now.

As for the extract, I liked it even as short as it is. We get a quick insight into Corax's character (generally impatient, willing to break rules, close to his brothers), the timing of the novel is well illustrated (straight run through from Raven's Flight, and I'm pretty sure Dorn is indisposed due to the closing events of The Outcast Dead), and I just want to jump in front of the bull here and state unequivocably that "Alpharius" isn't actually "Alpharius." That's more shennastigating on the part of the Alpha Legion, I'm sure, since it would be hard to believe that a Primarch could pass as a common Astartes amongst other Astartes -- and in the presence of another Primarch.

I wonder if it's gonna be a limited edition novella. ;)

Joking aside, Alpharius... I'm questioning if that was a good judgement call considering primarchs are able to recognize other primarchs. In that case, if that is true, the Alpharius must have done a very good job evading Corax, if at all (or/and Dorn, for that matter).

I think you're right. The text describes Alpharius' "augmented eyes", and that should be a phrase reserved for astartes, not primarchs, who are simply born with super duper eyeballs, not enhanced.

I wonder if it's gonna be a limited edition novella.

It's not Alpharius. It's a Alpha Legionare who has infiltrated the Raven Guard. It's just that to anybody outside the legion they use the codesign Alpharius ;)

That may be true since we all don't know who truly is Alpharius or Omegon, for that matter. We'll see by the time the book comes out. I'm debating on whether to get that poster since I really like that artist, Neil Roberts if I'm not mistaken. Or was that Fowler? I keep mixing those two up often. I'm fairly certain it's Neil Roberts.
