Lord Tharand
I have been using the GW Airbrush for basecoating and a few other things but the hose got a tear in it the other day. I figured instead of dropping money on another iffy airbrush I would just buy a real one. Do any of you experienced painters out there have recommendations on a brand or style of airbrush that works well for painting marines/vehicles? I think I would prefer to have one with a compressor so I don't have to worry about getting cans of propellant. Thanks in advance! As far as airbrushes go you cant beat Iwata's, I have had mine for years now and it is very reliable and I can do just about anything I want with it; http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/iwecai.html I would strongly recommend the gravity fed model. Though if you want to drop more money than the Iwata, this is the current brush I am saving up for; http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/hastinaise.html I would recommend the .2mm needle size, it is a bit smaller than the standard Iwata, but not as small as the Iwata Micorn, which is just too small. The Steinbeck brush is just sexy and it sprays sooooo nice and smooth a definite step up from the Iwata. As far as compressors go this is the one I use and I have been quite happy with it; http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/d3000.html The larger air tank allows for larger air capacity meaning your motor does not run as much, increasing the life of the compressor. You can get the cheap harbor freight ones, but I have never had one of those last longer than a year. Lord Tharand
Thank you very much Redfinger! I'll go ahead and give the the one you recommended a try. I know it'll speed up my painting times for sure. Again, thank you! Edit: Is there any particular reason the gravity fed airbrush is better than the bottle fed? Tanhausen
For variety's sake... I suggest the H&S (Harder & Steenbeck????) range. Self centering nozzle, multiple gauges (regular I think is .2 and .4) and usually cheaper than the Iwata. I have 3 AB: 2 cheap (25-40 Euros) and I think its an Eclipse o Focus (not sure now). Compressor is also VERY important. Main issue is constant pressure and moisture... Welcome to the jungle Frater! Redfinger
Edit: Is there any particular reason the gravity fed airbrush is better than the bottle fed? The gravity feed supplies the paint from about, thus gravity works for you and feeds the paint, this also allows you to get in closer to the model than a bottle or siphon fed brush would allow. Chaplain Gunzhard
Redfinger is dead on... I'd also like to mention the NEO for Iwata Airbrush (chicago AB has it also). It is targeted specifically for our needs. It's a gravity fed, dual action AB that does just what we need it to... but it's cheap! ...it's made 'for' Iwata but you still get that incredible Iwata customer service and a 5yr warranty. Ashton Agreed with all of the above. Additionally, the angle at which we use the AB means that if the side-feed cup isn't all but empty, you'll end up spilling it... I know by experience :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242288-airbrush-recommendations/#findComment-2930725 Share on other sites
Lord Tharand
Thank you gentlemen. I truly appreciate the help. I think, based on the recommendations, I'll get one of the gravity fed ABs. This is an exciting new dawn for my painting! Lord Tharand
reviews by a pro I got the Iwata HP-CS as it is a great all around airbrush now I need to decide on a compressor Thanks DIDM. I found that pretty interesting and helpful. I decided to get an Iwata Eclipse and one of the Iwata compressors. The Black Friday deal was a little too good to pass up. Once again I would like to thank everyone who responded.
