Brother Darkover
Brothers, first and foremost greetings! Second, I have a conundrum. I have a solid force of Grey Hunters and a Rune Priest to lead them. My question is what should I do to expand this force into a competitive as well as fun list? Since the Holidays are coming on this becomes particularly important because this is one of the only times I expand my force Regards, Brother Darkover Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242329-after-grey-hunters/ Share on other sites
dswanick
Is this all you have, or just what you regularly play with? My core go to force consists of: WGBL, WGPL, Greys and a Rhino RP, WGPL, Greys and a Rhino Long Fangs and a Razorback Land Speeder I never feel as though I'm lacking tools against any of the enemies I regular play against in my LGS (Blood Angels, Dark Edlar, IG, Nids, CSM, Orks) My current WIP add ins consist of Whirlwind, Wolf Priest and Sky Claws, WGPL and Swift Claws, and another pack of Greys. Mantinel
Greetings Brother, welcome to the Fang. With basic troops and HQ covered, you should seriously consider getting them some Rhinos for transportation. I don't know what weapons and accessories your Grey Hunters have but having a Wolf Standart and Mark of Wulfen is highly suggested. Also Wolf Guard leaders for Grey Hunters are highly popular, especially those equiped with Combi-melta and Powerfist. In the terms of effectivity you can't go wrong with Long Fangs with Missile Launchers and / or Predator (I prefer Autocannon/Lascanon variant). If you bought new Wolf Pack boxes you should have a lot of spare parts for upgrading Space Marine scouts into Wolf Scouts, so consider this option as well. Now would be the time to get some killer HQ. If you like dreadnoughts (who doesn't), you should get Bjorn. He is a wicked killer machine you can wrap your tactics around. I personally don't like riding with my HQ in a Rhino (except Rune Priest), but if you won't mind, you can make a Wolf Lord in Power Armour and stick him into Grey Hunter squad. As I don't know how many points you are aiming for I won't go further. To sum up, you should get following in order presented: transports, long range firepower, mobile element, killer HQ. Brother Darkover
At the moment I have enough Grey Hunters to make four packs with MotW, Wolf Standard, MG, PW and WGPL with PF and Combi-Melta. I assume that this is enough Hunters for the 2000 pt level? WG Vrox
This is definitely a crossroads in your force. I would start with transports if you do not already have them. This can be in the form of Drop Pods, Rhinos, Land Raiders or a bunch of Razor Backs. If you already have those items, then you need to consider your Anti-Tank contingency. This can come in the form of Speeders, Long Fangs, Scouts, Predators and even Dreads. Specially equipped WG in a Drop Pod can also be used to this effect. If you need those transports consider Razor Backs outfitted with Twin Linked Las Cannons or las Plas weapons. If instead of transports you want to overwhelm you opponent with foot slogging mayhem, then 4 boxes of WG in TDA is just the ticket and lots of speeders and/or Bikers to add mobility. Though if your new to the game I would suggest speeder as your first purchase. They come with parts to be rhinos as well, as long as you don't glue the gun mounting on. Much smarter choice. Long fangs are a must buy as well. Wysten
Aye, transports, then Long Fangs, then fast attack slot. Then from there, anything else is purely up to taste. Elite Slots is purely optional since Wolf Guard are easy enough a build out of Grey hunters and the elite slot tends to supliment the army, rather then the other way around. If you got any of the battle set, though, scouts are good start. I wish I had known this before I bought 3 Rhinos. I just don't glue down the top hatch and swap them around. Also, magnetize vehcs! Really helps. Freman Bloodglaive
Over here the Razorback kit costs the same as the Rhino kit. Weird huh? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242329-after-grey-hunters/#findComment-2931556 Share on other sites
