Heru2012
This update I decided to give myself a break from the orange...I know its only 5 marines so far but I fancied breaking up my first tactical squad with a kitbash chaplain seen previously. I really enjoyed painting this guy, I tried a few more techniques to improve, a bit of OSL on the eyes and crozius and a bit of verdigris on his backback and chest, and I think they came out ok, if anyone has any tips they'd be much welcomed! http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae53/Lotan_2009/chap.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae53/Lotan_2009/IMG_20111204_105724.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae53/Lotan_2009/IMG_20111204_105806.jpg http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae53/Lotan_2009/IMG_20111204_110120.jpg Again apologies on the photos, still using my phone. <_<
KaiserTJ1860
Love the chappy, chains round the hand is a nice touch. loving the bases too, particularly the little dashes of violet. makes a good contrast with the armour. Chappy has come out really nice in the painting too. the only thing i think would need work is the OSL, im no expert, but it just seems a bit washed out, and on the croisius i dont think its having the desired effect Best, TJ
Heru2012
First off, cheers mate, I was really happy about the way a 10 minute kitbash turned out! What do you mean about the crozius looking washed out, I'm new to the OSL stuff and although I've been painting for 15 years I'm always looking to learn more, what needs changing? Oh and the chain was added because after pinning the crozius to the arm, i realised i has no green stuff to fill gaps, so I kinda just glued chain on instead :D Ever want to make a plastic crozius, the sanguinary guard axe with the blade shaved down and filed works well! Any painting tips people want to give is all welcome, I've been out of the hobby for about 2 years now so anythings welcome!
KaiserTJ1860
Well, i've been out a lot longer, and my painting proficiencies arent anywhere near yours to start but ill try and explain myself a bit better. The Crosius and the eyes dont really look as if theyr glowing, more that theyve just had parts painted partially blue. From what ive seen the best OSL is a lot more intense, a really bright glow. And often its a lot more focused, I feel your model would benefit from having more aspects models that dont glow, to really highlight the parts that do. Also i think the bits you have osl'd need a focal point, the bit that actually exudes the light needs to be really bright and really obvious In short, more intense glow (maybe some white mixed in the very high highlights) and less parts osl'd and the light sources really pointed out The chain to cover up the gaps is a good idea, and it really works with chappies. maybe you could extend one end of the chain and have something hanging on it? Heru2012
Ah cheers mate! I think the picture drowns a lot out in this, as its on my phone the colours a bit off. It is actually quite bright but I'd admit it does nedd tidying and perking up a little! Cheers for the tips!
