A question about the SW Pack set.

Hey guys. I just had a few questions as I am about to finally start buying some models. First off, does a transfer sheet come with the SW Pack set? I cant paint very well and free-handing Great Company markings isn't really in the cards for me yet. I know I can get some from FW but its only ten of each Company. Secondly, C:SW is the only dex I own and I am quite curious as to what Chapter Tactics is. I know its a C:SM thing but I am just trying to keep my friends close and my enemies closer. Trying to learn and absorb everything I can. Lastly, I know at one point in time, and I have seen some recently, people that have an Avatar picture of a SW with some of the different Great Company markings on them. All I could find was the standard Ragnar marine but I was wondering if I could still get a different one. Thank you all for taking the time to read my post and help me out. Just trying to lead my Wolves to Eternal Glory!

As to answer some of your questions....

Yes, the pack box comes with transfers. I will have to look to see what is on the sheet and how many to be sure.

As to chapter tactics... kill? Not really something that I see in our codex. Since we are not a codex chapte it is not something that applies. Each Great Company has a prefered battle style so that maybe the closest thing.

As to the avatars... do a search in the forum. I am not sure where, but someone, I can't remember who, did different avatars up. If I don't get sniped I will have more info tomorrow once I get a chance to look at the transfer sheet and do somepoking around.

Welcome to the Fang! Pull up a chair and have an ale.

Thank you both very much. Hmmm I want to do a lesser known Company so I guess its between Bjorn and Erik. Wolf Scouts could be interesting... Anyway, sorry let me rephrase. I know we do not have Chapter Tactics in our dex. But, I have heard this term used with Codex Space Marine armies and I was just curious as to what it was. I will try to do another quick search for those Avatars but my searchfu is jokingly weak. Thanks again, brothers.

EDIT: Found the Avatars I was looking for!!! :D

-Chapter Tactics is the Codex:Space Marine special rule which allows Ultramarines (and successors) to use Combat Tactics or some other special rules.

-Combat Tactics allows a player to choose to automatically fail a Moral test they are called to make. It is a fairly underestimated rule by many which allows a wilely commander to extract a unit from a bad situation he may find himself in. For example : say you are fighting one of your C:SM friends and one of your ten-man Grey Hunter packs maneuvers into position to assault one of his Tactical squads camped on an objective. The usual tactic would be for us to shoot with 10 Bolt Pistols (scoring ~1.1 unsaved wounds on the unit) then Assaulting them with 30 attacks to his 10 (scoring ~2.2 unsaved wounds to his ~.8 wounds). A significant advantage for us as we are likely to kill him over the following turns with our 20 attacks to his 10 all while protected from enemy fire from other nearby units. Now, instead, imagine that your Bolt pistol shooting caused three unsaved wounds instead of one (yeah, right?). Since his unit has taken >25% casualties in your shooting phase he is called to take a Moral test. With Chapter Tactics he chooses to fail the test, and makes an immediate Fall Back move which conveniently takes him out of range of your 6" Assault move. You've now lost your chance to assault, and on his turn he auto-Rallies (thanks to And they shall know no fear) and can now shoot your Grey Hunters up with that squads Bolters as well as any other nearby units because your Greys are not locked in Assault.

-Be aware that C:SM also has several Special Characters which cause an entire force to exchange their Combat Tactics for something else. So you may find yourself playing a friend's C:SM army and instead of getting to auto-fail Morale check his entire army may exchange Combat Tactics for Fleet (thanks to Shrike) or Stubborn (thanks to Kantor).
