-Leman Russ-
Here is 1 of 75 men! He took me about 4-5 hours but was very much worth it. He has chaos parts, and magnetized at the arms, and shoulder pads. Some C&C would be appreciated! http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/001.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/002.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/003.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/004.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/005.jpg The camera always reveals so many mistakes! Haha, from a personal view most of those are hard to see, oh well i'll fix those before Thanksgiving dinner. Since no member of the rout no matter how long they spent in the warp walk around with chaos symbols on them. not true.13th wear them out of necessity.Want proof ? read the Ragnar series sure they won't bother to remove all the points etc but chaos god specific symbols? definetly something that get's removed or defiled when they find the time for it. it's only normal if you consider our belief in symbols etc. so keep the points, but defile/lose the khornate signs :D as for the painting, it's definetly table standard although i'd like to see what he would look like if he recieved a wash with the black wash(can't recall the name) i think it'll maker the metals etc look better Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242425-my-first-attempt-at-13th-co-paint-job/#findComment-2930994 Share on other sites
-Leman Russ-
Here is the same model, I did some touch ups. For one, I added a Iron Halo, and a Horn for looks. I KNOW that SW don't have/use them, but this is scavenged war gear yea? - The eyes are like that because I tried to get them to look glowing/menacing. It is my first attempt at any glow effect. im still working on it. - I painted the mostly gold axe to have some black - I repainted the bolter head to gold - The eyes are glowing on the gun, atleast I tried to make it look like such..... - I painted the studs on his black gloves with a gold to help them stand out http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/001-1.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/002-1.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/004-1.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/003-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242425-my-first-attempt-at-13th-co-paint-job/#findComment-2931102 Share on other sites
Arez
Add what ever you want to you mini's.I've never done the glow effect but i think you need a lighter red for the eyes. Looking good keep up the good work @hendrik true.but maybe he didnt have time to remove the chaos god specific icons :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242425-my-first-attempt-at-13th-co-paint-job/#findComment-2931118 Share on other sites
Thurne Shadehunter
Definately want to deface the iconagraphy - stars and the God-Centric marks. Not bad for a first try. Modelling wise try to stay in Pre Heresy/Heresy Era armors if at all possible. May I ask where the drinking horn came from? -Leman Russ-
It is from the terminator boxes I would assume. I have only bought them from Ebay, and they all describe them as "Space Wolf Terminator Horn" give it a try in the Ebay search, you will find a few. - Where/how would I use pre-heresy armour? I know that FW sells some, but that is very expensive.... Is there any method of converting? Thurne Shadehunter
I wouldn't worry about FW if your wallet is tight. Just try to limit what you use from the standard SM boxed sets. Mark 6 Corvus would be as latest as I'd go. Try to avoid eagle/eagle variation chest plates for example. Then it's a matter of striking a balance between salvaged chaos gear and damaged original gear. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Pretty nice conversion. I would definitely give the model a good wash though. It helps break up the flat color. fivepointedstar
its a good model. But the power pack is my only issue. For a member of the 13th lost company he has plenty of time to re-paint his company colors (grey) on top of a possible berzerkers blood red power pack. If is possible re-paint the power pack red, or else something more chaotic that way he doesn't look like a renegade, and more like a space wolf scavenger. Try painting parts like his gauntlets, or greeves different colors to denote him having to replace rather than repair while in the warp. But keep up the good work. Beef
I like the conversion and I like the fact you enjoyed the time spent on the model. As long as you are happy with the result and enjoyed the progress thats all that matters. I also appreciate that you tried to do the glowing eyes, something i am still not brave enough to do after over 15 years painting and modelling. However correct me if I am wrong but dont you work from a darker colour in the center (eye lense) to a lighter colour to shoe the glow? yo seem to have done the opposite as your lens is lighter than the surrounding area. I know your way makes sence real world wise but painting wise I thought it was the opposite, My apologies If I am mistaken. -Leman Russ-
Here is my second warrior of the 13th Co. ! http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/006-1.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/005-1.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/002-2.jpg Here they are training! http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/002-3.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/001-2.jpg - I gave the glowing eyes another shot here, the green was much easier then red. MaveriK
The first picture/model could use some washes. I say this only so that it would help define the lines and it's armor. His shoulder pads can be hard on the eyes at first glance, as nothing really separates the gold from the red. Some inking or washes will put borders from the two colors, hopefully making it more stand out. -Leman Russ-
- I tried to see how a shield would look instead of a backpack. In my own lore/fluff it's to represent that not everyone would have a backpack after this long  - It's magnetized so I can always swap it out. - Tell me what you think of it! http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/002-4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242425-my-first-attempt-at-13th-co-paint-job/#findComment-2932208 Share on other sites

Gaeus Marius
I think you could use some washes or a little highlighting on those models. Try hitting them with a light wash of Devlin Mud, it should give them a nice dirty feel, and bring out the highlights. I like the glowing lense effect on the bolter. Did you say that you magnetized the shoulder pads as well? How, if I may ask, did you do it? -Leman Russ-
The shoulders where a huge pain. - I drilled the part of the shoulder facing outwards, I made the hole deeper then the height of the magnet. - I then drilled a small dimple on the shoulder pad that met with the magnet in the arm. I drilled it deeper, that way the magnet in the shoulder, which wasnt drilled in too far would fit into the empty space of the hole in the shoulder. I don't know if it changed anything, but the end of the magnet that is on the exterior of the shoulder is attracted to the magnet in the interior. By this I mean the magnet that connects the arm to torso is also attracted to the magnet that attracts the shoulder pad to the arm. I did this because the distance between the two magnets wasn't very much once all the drilling was done. -Leman Russ-
Looked into all the critique and decided to wash the models! I also painted my third man. As always let me know what you think! - I starting painting elbow pads/leg parts a random Chaos color (Blue= 1k Sons, Red = Berzerkers, Black = Black Legion) - Going to move on to more colors like purple/white/gold/green to represent parts from other chapters etc, trying to make these man as unique as possible. http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/001-5.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/002-5.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/003-2.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/004-2.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x385/behyadehto/005-2.jpg - Contemplating next model, probably going to do greenish for Nurgle, however im not sure if that would work because then thats actually rot? Can anyone clarify this for me? Is it possible for me to paint a part Green to represent a scavenged part from a Nurgle soldier? Wulfebane
Instead of green ooze/pus, you could go the other nurgle route, and rust up a weapon or some armor. As to individuality, I would be concerned if it begins to get too muddled if taken too far. If anything, it'll start feeling more like a display of all the colors of the chaotic rainbow than a 13th company. At some point, it's going to be too much chaos (as already felt by some in this thread). You might want to consider situations such as what if the Wolves had some downtime and actually managed to scrape off some of these symbols, or stumbled onto a plundered freight vessel in the Warp and got some fresh paint.. or that some of these Wolves have managed to salvage armor from fallen brothers and still maintain a full set of armor that hasn't been mingled with heretical armor. What it boils down to... I'm seeing a lot more chaos than I do space wolves. Having 2/3 of their armor painted grey (and not a recognizably space wolves/fenris grey) isn't enough for me, personally.. and with all the chaotic clutter, the iconic SW bling like pelts and wolf skulls just start looking like chaos marauders in 40k armor. I am sorry if this seems a bit harsh. I feel it would be a disservice to your skills as a painter and modeler to not give you an honest critique. I will say, however, that the wash definitely helped pick out the details in your armor.
