Because Fulgrim build up a heavily fortified position, as well as a void shield, which couldn't be destroyed with an orbital bombardment. Ferrus also conviced Vulkan and Corax to lauching an assault as soon as possible after they found out that an orbital bombardment would be useless.

Forgive me if this has been asked before. :P

Why, when the loyalist legions arrived at Istvaan V, why didn't they completely obliterate the traitor forces via orbital bombardments? Surely that would have been more prudent than sending thousands of loyalists to their death?

I would assume that it was something to do with hundreds of thousands of marines needing to vent their anger at the betrayal, which an orbital bombardment wouldn't be personal enough.

Cheers,

Jono
