Wulfebane
It has also been pointed out that the squad would be a huge fire magnet; I feel that this may relieve pressure on the Grey Hunter's, which are the wedge behind the strike team which consist of Logan/ Arjac and Long Fangs. I think that with Grey Hunters (oh how I would love him to benefit from Wolf Standards!!!) Arjac would draw too much attention to them. Impossible. Hypothetically, my opponent dumps two drop pods within 12" of my deployment zone/gunline. The first one has Arjac and 8 Grey Hunters. The second has Logan and 5.5 meltas (packleader = 0.5) with relentless. Which one am I gunna focus fire on before it wreaks massive damage? Yeah, sure.. I'll toss something at Arjac's pack to tie it up for a bit, but if I leave the Loganbomb alone, I can simply kiss all my heavy support goodbye. The same simply isn't true for Arjac's pack. Fluff reasons. As Logan's champion, I feel it it kind of fitting that he is in the pod with him; despite the fact the the Long Fang's they're with have been around for centuries and are about to embark on a suicide mission which is not very fluffy. A few things. Considering Arjac as Logan's Champion, I would fully expect Logan to have enough trust at his competency to lead other packs for Logan and inspire them as an extension of Logan himself. Aside from that, to keep Arjac with Logan and the Fangs absolutely makes that squad a target and therefore a suicide squad (for the Fangs; Arjac will be just fine). And to say this squad pulls attention away from your Grey Hunters...... this is backwards thinking, imo. You would rather have a 500-ish points squad be the distraction for an (at maximum) 200-ish point squad? The points for the squad and TWO special characters not only consumes 1/3 of your army in points, if they were to be targeted and subsequently destroyed in a victory points match, you have little to no chance of winning no matter what you do. It's very inefficient to place so many points and priority targets into a single squad. Considering you still need a minimum of 3 wolf guard to even field Arjac, you could simply give the Loganbomb drop pod a TDA WG w/ SS to soak those AP1 shots, still make the pack lethal in cc, keep your drop pod capacity efficiency, and with Arjac elsewhere, potentially have some fire spread out between the two targets so the bomb isn't focus-fired down. Wysten
Why don't I put Arjac with Grey Hunter's? I think the main reason is space efficiency. If I place him with Grey Hunters I would be down 2 Grey Hunters while my Long Fangs (if I chose to keep them) would be only taking up 8 slots in the drop pod. Number of attacks With Logan's base 5 attacks, Arjac's 3+1 (before counter/charge bonuses and even living legend) and add to that a Long Fangs base 2 powerfist attacks; this is a surprising about of attacks from 3 models. Maybe swap it for a powerweapon for a better chance to strike with less fear of wasting points for an ablative wound.. Fluff reasons. As Logan's champion, I feel it it kind of fitting that he is in the pod with him; despite the fact the the Long Fang's they're with have been around for centuries and are about to embark on a suicide mission which is not very fluffy. In reguards to the Grey Hunters, they would be at the same wound value anyway ( 10 and 10) only even more duriable (two of those wounds are covered by termie armour and a SS sheild) plus each grey hunter lost only sets you back about 15 points each till you get to the specials. Which is better then 20/35 per long fang lost. So if they really want to target the Grey Hunters, they are not putting as much long ranged fire towards your Long Fangs, Logans Long Fangs or the other squad and by using the droppods as cover, they will at least provide a second big threat. Indeed, the main issue is with your Long Fangs is that every loss hurts with them. If the oppoment recongises that by putting a gigantic amount of fire towards that unit that he will really hurt your list, he's largely going to be fairly confortable in doing just that. It's a impressive unit, I believe only a really big Paladin unit or something simlar can threaten it in CC, but on the same token most of your threats are likely to come from shooting. The ultramarine list took out most of them and was largely saved by a combination of fantastic rolling (killing of the 4 honour guard with just Logan is quite exceptional) and the fact he chose to meet you in CC. (since the land raider was still functional, it could have backed off and saved it's cargo until another round of shooting hit the unit. In this case, his shooting only took out the long fangs, though I imagine room to move would have been a big issue. Whether another round of shooting would have produced a different result...) And as Logan's Champion, I believe his main duty is to find and essencally kill the strongest Champions he can find, he doesn't nessiarily have to stay with the old wolf. It may give the wrong impression our great leader is getting too old to fight! XD Of course, the choice is all yours, you do what you feel is working. We just offer the other view to help. ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242518-tips-on-footslogging/page/2/#findComment-2935013 Share on other sites
