Kajae
Hey guys. So I saw some artwork a while back that showed some Dark Angels captains, and for the vents on their backpacks there were lion heads instead of the normal round nozzles. Does anybody know of any bits that would look the part there? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242656-dark-angels-bits/ Share on other sites
WatchCaptainAzrael
I know that Forgeworld's Huron model pre-piracy days has very leonine bits. Perhaps those will strike your fancy? Brother dean
Find a wolfbrother and beg him for the bolt pistol and plasma pistol that have a wolf lounging on the top. Paint it gold and you have a lion... http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w20/fred40k2002/Dark%20Angels/Assault8017.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242656-dark-angels-bits/#findComment-2933801 Share on other sites

Captain Semper
Not quite answering the OP question but I am not sure how appropriate the lion image is for DAs. I mean the Lion was named so after killing what was in reality a malicious Chaos creature, not because of the regal and noble image of the Terran lion... It was in essense a trophy. For the DAs to adopt the image of a Chaos creature is not really proper, I don't think, nor can it be justified as a trophy since, well, no one earned the right to bear such trophy in the first place. If Zachariel is still around, maybe he could wear it ;) Just a thought. If Zachariel is still around, maybe he could wear it :P Just a thought. That's not quite correct, is it (was it different in the Heresy books - I can't recall)? The story went that Luther named him that when he was still a child before he slew any Chaos Beasts - though maybe he did to survive for 10 years.... "Luther and the band brought Jonson back to their Fortress Monastery and named him 'Lion El'Jonson' which means The Lion, the Son of the Forest after the location and circumstances they found him in." lexicanum: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Lion_El'Jonson#Youth The way I see it is he was named the Lion because of his tenacity and courage to live 10 years alone in the wilds. Perhaps Luther was naming him after a Calibanite Lion, as that would be a "species of lion" he would know or maybe he was drawing on his knowledge of ancient Terran Lions and what they represent. Eitherway the chaos beasts were destroyed and none (or only a select few maybe?) know that they were even chaos tainted to begin with - they were after all exterminated before the coming of the Emperor. 10,000 years later you are left with a "missing" Primarch whose name you honor in the only way you know possible - adorning armor with the visage of a lion. An that visage is never of a Calibanite lion as they are noted as looking really nothing like actual Terran lions. Captain Semper
You are right of course. I don't know why I (momentarily) thought the slaying of the Calibanite Lion had anything to do with Johnson's name giving. I'd like to say I was under the influence of alcohol but I wasn't - maybe I should search deeper :). Having said that though it is interesting that the lion is not a part of the heraldy of the DAs. It is the sword and the wings and the (dark) angel. It's kind of strange that GW is not using the lion as a symbol at all in relation to DAs... The only relevant thing I can think about is the Chapter symbol of the Disciples of Caliban. Anyway you set the record straight. Kierdale
Perhaps you could pick up some plastic toy lions designed for kids, decapitate them (the lions, not the kids) and use the parts? It'd probably be quite cheap too... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242656-dark-angels-bits/#findComment-2935607 Share on other sites
Hemal
Indeed he was named for the Terran lion as he appeared to have a mane of hair like a lion and was wild, uncowed in the face of teh Knights of the Order. I'd never seen it before, and from that detail you're right, it could be used as a lion. Still looking around for backpack-sized ones.
