Honda
You should really, really replace that sword with a mace The sword is staying , I'm sticking with the artwork. I think they are referring to the "effect" the Emperor has on mankind, hence the reference to a mace. Weapons-wise you are doing just fine. Feel free to ignore the subtle taunts of Chaos, they often get jealous when faced with lots of awesome. Your army is really shaping up and looking very good. I do think you need to check the feet of the tilted Dreadknight. It appears as if his middle toes have mold lines on them. You are doing a wonderful job on this project (were that mine could move this quickly), but do remember to keep an eye out for those lines. They'll go invisible on you, then suddenly appear at the least convenient moment. sword brethren
looking fantastic, great custodes army so far. How tall is your Emperor, isn't he seen to appear a lot taller than he is due to his presence? great work though, i always look forward to updates on this thread. VAGABOND
Thank you very much mate! :tu: He stand overs a Terminators since I made him taller and bulkier than normal Terminators, even though the model was based on Cullin he is larger. Cheers, You're on the right track, but I personally agreed with the mace suggestion (Not to be taken seriously, just a joke, really) because Horus is depicted many times as using a mace. Without the flowing black hair, and with a mace, the model could be a dead ringer for Horus before his corruption by the influences of Chaos. And I agree completely about mould lines. I hate them and take great care to remove them, but the odd one shows up after I've primed. Always frustrating. All that said, it's been really enjoyable watching this project progress. fivepointedstar
You should really, really replace that sword with a mace  Acually Im thinking DAT was refering to Horus, because the Emperor, and Horus were close to same wargear i.e. each had a lightning claw on opposite hands, and a sword for the "big E", and a mace in the hands of Horus. So since DAT is a follower of the dark gods, he's more inclined to vote for the ruinous mace that added in fell the Emperor. It's either black or gold, when I start to bleed them both. Yeah the Emperor model was based on the artwork I've been using and researched into it to get the main idea on how I was gonna approach it. And the heads and shoulder pads came from Scibor, which I bought off eBay. I've still got another squad to do and need to buy another batch. I'm also gonna work on a Brotherhood Champion and a possible Librarian? Dark Apostle Thirst
I'm sorry, but I love the irony of the head Custode wielding the same thing as Horus :) EDIT: Subtle and Death explained my statement first. VAGABOND
Well I'm happy with how they are turning out and they are doing well in games. I did this project to do my own personal take on the Custodians and I think I've did a good enough job and so do the loads of other guys who've seen the army. If you look at any artwork of the Emperor online then you will see why I did it the way I did. VAGABOND
:UPDATE!: First of all just wanna say Merry Christmas to everyone, things will be a quiet for a few days over the festive period and it's my Birthday on Boxing Day theres a chance I'll be drunk somewhere. :cuss I've taken some more pictures of the Adeptus Custodes and added a few more models after a few friends said I should maybe look into adding a Librarian or a Brotherhood Champion to my list.. so i did. I also fixed The Emperors hair and made it longer, never tried it before but I'm pleased with how it turned out. The Stormravens look like a blurry gold mess because of the light but I'm gonna finish them off, but like I said in my earlier post the weathers been rubbish so can't take decent photos. There are another 5 Custodians with Halberds but I don't have shoulder pads for them yet and I've dropped the Dreadknights from my list because they weren't doing well in games and I found them to be too much of a points sink at 260 each. ;) Brotherhood Champion http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/BC.jpg Librarian http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Lib.jpg Draigos Unit http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Squad1.jpg Unnit 2 http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/squad2.jpg Dreadknight 1 http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/knight1.jpg Dreadknight 2 http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/knight2.jpg The Emperor http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/theemperor.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242676-vagabonds-legios-custodes-army-blog/page/3/#findComment-2951004 Share on other sites

VAGABOND
More updates on the Custodians! I bought a Venerable Dreadnought for more anti tank and also to use some of the spare parts for my other 2 Black Reach Dreads that I bought off a friend for a good price. I did some more work on the Thunderchickens to bring them more upto standard with the rest of the army because I wasn't 100% happy with them. I've been tinkering with different lists and been making changes here and there. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/raven.jpg I went into GW today for a long day of gaming and to get to grips with them and hopefully get more wins under my belt. Played 3 games altogether and managed to win all of them, maybe because we were playing Kill Points? :P Didn't take loads of pictures due to me being in game mode but did have a giggle with some funny things happening. 10 man Paladin unit with The Emperor & Librarian vs... Assault Marines. My opponent fired everything he had at them and managed to kill 1 and then charged them in and I killed every Marine down to a man http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-12-29164137.jpg And then the highlight of the game, I charged 30 Scouts and tore them limb from limb. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-12-29170824.jpg My last game was against a mate of mine who plays a Tactical Squad spam army that usually does pretty well in games as he's beaten my Deathwing GT army when I was testing it out around 6 months ago. Steve's army is possibly the toughest set up for my Draigowing as it has loads of Plasma and a Vindicator. I had a Vindicare sitting in ruins in my DZ and I immobilized it first turn so on his first turn the building on the right was blocking his Vindi's line of fire so for a laugh he blew it up giving him a clear view. On my 2nd turn I shot the Vindicator again and blew the cannon off it. If only Michael Caine was present to give him a few wise words. :) http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-12-29194001.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-12-29200134.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-12-29200144.jpg The Paladin wall advances http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2011-12-29200209.jpg Fantastic day of gaming, will update once I've started work on the Dreadnoughts and wait for the last set of Shoulder Pads to arrive. Honda
The army is looking really sharp and I really like the lighting banner. I had been wondering what sort of devices to use on my banners and that will fit the bill nicely, so great idea on that. I was wondering how an all gold brick with wings was going to look on the table and I like what I see. Have you used it to deliver termies into assault yet? Keep up the awesome work! I've been trying to work on my reds and golds atm and I'm loving the results. Yeah the Doves From Above are certainly doing the damage just now and using them to deliver Paladins into the ranks is working a treat. I use 2 Budges so my opponent doesn't know which one has a unit inside but I used a 10 man Paladin squad earlier for the first time and they were near enough unstoppable. Thanks for replying mate, hope you had a good Christmas. VAGABOND
Happy New Year folks! I was having trouble with taking photos and decided to turn my kitchen into a giant lightbox since it's the brightest room in my flat. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Emperor.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/EmperorBack.jpg Decided to use this model as my Librarian purely because of the pose and the excuse to make an extra long Force Sword. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Lib-1.png Dreadknights http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/DK2.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/DK1.jpg Stormravens: I touched up the gold on them because they looked a little plain compared tot he rest of the army. I'm still thinking about adding some more details to them and possibly adding prayers on the wings? I completely forgot to mention that the wings were magnetised for easy transportation http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Budgie1.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/Budgie2.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/BudgieMagnets.jpg Squad shots and individual model photos http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACusSquad2.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACusHammer.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACus4.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACus3.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACus2.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACus1.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ABanner-1.jpg I've almost finished painting, I've only got 3 more Custodians (Awaiting Shoulder Pads), 3 Psyrifle Dreadnoughts (Armour needs highlighted) and a Vindicare Assassin (Basecoated) to paint then the army is finished. The army could be completed by the start of next week and I plan to take it to tournaments this year and see how it does. I might even try and go for Best Painted Army if I can. Someone in my local GW did a Custodian army before me and has nicknamed my army the tribute but as many of the guys in GW have said that mine is far better and stands out more than this which I'm pleased to hear. If anyone would like to see his army then feel free to send me a message. VAGABOND
Been working on my Grey Knights for the past few days and making a few changes in army lists and trying out different tactics with them and see what I can do. I sat on Paint earlier on for a few hours and came up with an army list template for my Custodians. I'm taking part in another tournament down in Warhammer World for Glasgow Vs Cariisle next month representing the Glasgow guys using my new boys. The tournament is 1,500 points each so still deciding which list to take. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACTemplate-Copy.png http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/ACTemplate-Copy-Copy.png I also fixed up my other Dreadknight to fix the halberd because I wasn't happy with how he was positioned. I've also ordered a few Wraithlord tabards off a bits site to try break up the gold with some red. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i238/Ryan-Ess/2012-01-04203910.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242676-vagabonds-legios-custodes-army-blog/page/3/#findComment-2958742 Share on other sites
VAGABOND
Sorry for the lack of updates recently guys I've been busy gaming, converting and spending time with the other half. This army is almost finished but I keep designing you army lists and adding things to it for an upcoming tournament in March. My fellow Custodian brother Honda mailed me regarding the LPC and encouraged me to do more work on my army. So for my LPC vow I'm gonna attempt to complete 4 Psycannon Paladins, 3 Dreadnought, plastic Techmarine & Vindicare Assassin for my new 2k list. I've bought Sanguinary Guard bits off eBay and ordered more Scibor Heads and Pads to work on 4 Psycannon Custodians so they should be here this week hopefully. Will probably build the Techmarine tomorrow after I look out the parts tonight, will post up pictures of tonights painting probably tomorrow at some point. Grotsmasha
Nice work VAGABOND, and good luck with your vow. Actually, while I'm here, i'd like your opinion on something. I asked in the Heresy Forum, 120 views but didn't get any answers. So the Custodians switched out their red robes and plumes for black ones post-heresy, once the Emperor was sat upon his throne (to atone for failing to protect the big E or some such). All of the artwork I've seen shows Custodian Contemptors with red shoulders. As my Custodians are for my M41 Dornian Heresy Thousand Sons, should I be painting the Contemptors shoulders black? VAGABOND
Update time! Managed to paint 3 Dreadnoughts and my Vindicare Assassin today and the Sanguinary Guard parts I ordered online arrived aswell so I built them up and stuck their Psycannons on so I could use them in a game against my mate last night which I won! I did a little conversion work to the Vindicare so I shaved off the hair from the Scout head and gave him a skin tight head. 5 minutes work with it and I think it looks great. I also pieced together a Techmarine purely from bits I had spare and used him in aswell and he won the game for me after my opponent charged me with Pedro Kantor, Honour Guard and a Tactical Squad. First time using Psykostroke Grenades and I rolled a 2 and stopped all of them in their tracks while my Paladins, Draigo and Librarian wiped them out to a man. Right so onto the pictures. Honda
Why you clever, clever boy! :) 1. Your Vindicare is just ace. Very nice conversion...though I guess with the Eldarish looking weapon, the Ordo Xenos may want to have a talk with him. 2. I really like your posing. Your guys always look like they are rushing in to deliver the pain. First rate. Also, that's an excellent use of bits for your psycannon. Very unique. 3. Dread bodies are very nice, and the terrible towel between the legs is a nice touch. 4. How do you intend to do the techpriest? I'm curious to see what his colors end up being (e.g. red armor, red robes, gold armor, etc.) 5. Dread arms...I think they are sticking out a tad too much. I can see what you did and I think the magnetization is an excellent idea, but is it possible to countersink the magnets attached to the body? It may just be the picture, but they seem a bit out there. Excellent (and embarrassingly quick) work on your vow.
