Obligatory Dreadknight Conversion

Pig Of Sparta

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I wondered if I might gather some thoughts on a project I'm working on just now. I decided to re-read Titanicus a few days ago and as with the previous times I've read it, I wanted to paint a Titan. After giving up trawling a well known auction based website due to everything being highly priced, I caught sight of my half assembled Dreadknight. Much cutting, cursing and blu-tacking later I have arrived at this:

The engine is still very much a work in progress, lacking weapons is a major drawback Titans :P. A lot of him is just blu-tacked just now as well. I'm going to fill in the text on his knee guards (I know he's only got one in the picture but the other is sitting near by...). I also plan on armouring the pelvis a little more and possibly his midriff. I'm currently thinking that the easiest method of arming him is going to be to make use of a couple of Contemptor weapons from Forge World, probably a plasma cannon and a kheres assault cannon although I'm entertaining the possible use of a heavy conversion beamer representing a volcano cannon.

Finally, I think that due to his size, the easiest class of Titan to make him is a Warlord. He can't be an Imperator due to not having a city upon his shoulders and he's too big to be a Reaver, however I'm open to ideas :)

Thanks

James

@SanguiniusReborn and sehguhdier: Thank you :) I was in two minds about posting this as I wasn't sure if it was cool or crap to be honest. I've seen quite a few Dreadknight conversions floating around from Imperial Knights to Daemon Princes but as far as I know I'm the first to try this kinda thing. Which leads me nicely to...

@ Olisredan: Again, thank you for your comments. I probably should have said in my first post that this is a scale representation of a Warlord although it's slightly taller than the contemporary metal Epic Warlord Titan that GW make. In fact just be estimation I think he might be taller than the old Imperator that came with Titan Legions... Um, Warlord Maximus anyone? ;)

cheers

Ahh, so youre making this for EPIC?

As long as it's an epic scale titan, that's ok - Its waaay too small for a 40k scale warlord.

Great looking model, though. I think the contemptor arms may be too small, maybe attach cannons to the regular dreadknight arms?

Ok, so threadomancy is bad an normally I'd let my uncompleted projects die in piece but I finally got this 'mini's build almost completely finished. I couldn't figure out the best way to add weapons to the titan but as the pictures below show, I think I found a solution:

who knows in another 7 months or so I might get around to slapping some paint on it! ;)

cheers

Unless that thing is between 24-26" tall, it's probably way to short to be a Warlord. Even a Warhound is 12-14" tall. Unless that thing stands more than 6-8" it probably in the range of a Knight. Unless you're going for Epic scale and not Warhammer 40,000 scale...

He's not 40k scale and he's not really epic either, he's nominally a Warlord class titan as he does not have the hunched forward look of a Reaver and he doesn't have cathedra on his back like an Imperator, to my knowledge that only leaves the Warlord, although I admit he isn't any of the known patterns of Warlord... He's a never before seen Sparta Pattern Warlord :o.

@ Jackolos: thanks mate. I look forward to seeing what you do to your Dreadknight.

@ Peredyne: Thanks :). The weapons are based on the Tesla Destructors from the Necron Annihilation Barge kit. The one on the left has just had some bits trimmed off and guitar string cabling added. The right one has been combined with the Gatling Psylencer from the Dreadknight kit.

@ Jackolos: Some of the best painters I know of paint slow so it's not a bad thing of :) keep us posted on your progress though...

@ Olgerth Istaarn: The main part of torso is from the Dreadknight minus the 'baby carrier' and top hydraulics. The exhausts have also been trimmed off the engine. The waist is two Space Marine tank cupolas trimmed down combined with some of the baby carrier parts and armour plates from the Dreadknight kit, oh and there's a plasticard spacer in there too. The 'chest plate' was taken from the top 'camel hump' intake on the Storm Raven. The head and neck are from the Defiler kit. The gaps where the hydraulics were on the top of the torso were covered with the two halves of the Heavy Psycannon barrel from the Dreadknight kit.

If you'd like more info on any specific parts of the mini or components I used I can post up a comprehensive breakdown of the parts and their locations on the mini.
