DibbZi
Has anyone ever used the colored ones before. I'm looking to kinda speed up the process that I have going on, and was wondering if these are any good. All Opinions are welcome! Or is there something out there that is better and cheaper? I'm looking @ the green one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/ Share on other sites
Morollan
Not used the green one but I prime all my Blood Angels in Army Painter Pure Red and have had no problems with the spray. tazz888
I have a few friends who have used it for both Salamanders, Dark Angels and even orks with great success. I have used their black, uniform grey and necrotic flesh with the same results. I swear by AP primers. DibbZi
Ok so is there any place I can find a can of this that is cheaper then $11.99?? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2935577 Share on other sites
Brother Benedictus
I've used the army green for my orks...just be careful and do light coats...or it'll pile up and when it dries it cracks...so be gentle Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2935588 Share on other sites

Mazer Rackham
Sorry, didn't want to needlessly start a new topic - Army Painter Ultramarine - any good for Crimson Fists as-is? MR. GhostLegion
the ultramarine primer felt a little too bright to my taste for CF...but a little extra inking and shading makes it ok. thats one ive only used sparingly. i have good experience with the yellow, red, grey, and green though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2946271 Share on other sites
Mazer Rackham
Thanks for your input, it is appreciated. I have a big jar of Vallejo black wash - maybe it's time to put it to use..! ;) MR. ShasVa
I used Crystal Blue for my DIY chapter. They turned out great! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2950432 Share on other sites
Warbringer
And somethine even better is that their coming out with their own range of paints. http://admin.thearmypainter.com/files/down...ints_Teaser.pdf So you can use the basecoat spray and then use a base colour to touch up with :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2956542 Share on other sites
darkenedsquire
I did a review on my blog last month sometime of the pure red army painter spray and I have to say I wouldn't use anything but army painter now it works so well covers nicely just as someone else pointed out light sprays are the key its thicker than the gw primers but works very well i tend to start my blood angels with a pure red spray and a devlan mud wash and layer up from there. Bartali
I'm a frustrated GW Spray Gun user, and thought i'd give Army Painter sprays a go on a Baal Predator. Used Dragon Red as a Primer, followed by Pure Red as a base, and very impressed. Dry's very quickly too. Not sure I'd use them on Infantry though - it looks as though you'd need to spray them before assembling, and as the spray is thicker than GW's, you'd stand a greater chance of masking out the finer details Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2959264 Share on other sites
Warbringer
Bartali - Nope i use it for my infantry and just be sensible with it and do nice light coverings  and you'll be fine. Bartali
From my experience it works best on big flat surfaces where you can do quick 'swipes' of spray, stopping it from pooling up in one place. With the test assembled Assault Marine I tried, swiping doesn't quite get into all the nooks and crannies of the mini - That jump pack blocks paint going in to some areas. I could of course spray partially assembled, or finish with a brush, but i prefer to paint the mini assembled and base coat with the same paint all over. I paint mine in partial assemblies so a couple of light coats of spray primer seems to get everywhere I need it to. I just find it much easier to paint infantry without guns, packs etc getting in the way and then put them together fully afterwards. Momento Mori
I've just recently tried out the Army Painter sprays. One was the 'Wolf Grey' (I think, I forget right now) for my Sons of Russ. It has sped up my painting procedure tenfold. I wrote an article about it on my blog HERE You can see that it works pretty well on infantry models, but as someone else mentioned, its covereage is good, but can be a little heavy, as it is a primer/basecoat in one, so be sparing in your spraying  I just picked up a blue for my Lizardmen too, and i'm equally impressed. These guys have done a great job with their formula. Good luck! Honda
I have some Storm Ravens to paint and they will be a metallic gold. Does AP have a metallic gold paint and does anyone have experience with it or their metallics? Thanx in advance! Warbringer
But you could spray silver and then use lots of stages of gryphone sepia wash to make it gold ;) makes highlighting slightly easier then with mithril or something like that. Reldn
Not meaning to hijack this thread or anything, but, has anyone here ever used AP's White primer, then added another coat of a coloured primer over it? Because, I'm getting ready to do some Imperial Fists using the Daemonic Yellow spray primer, and it was suggested on the site that spraying with white primer first will make the yellow "pop" more. I'm just worried that it'll end up too thick with two coats of spray primer like that and obscure details...Also, that I may have wasted my money buying the White primer when I could've gotten some cheap white spray paint from Wal-Mart or Autozone. *laughs* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2964494 Share on other sites
Warbringer
I did with some blood angels as was planning on painting them differently however couldn't be bothered with it so sprayed them Red. No problems works pretty good over black too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242779-army-painter-primers/#findComment-2966436 Share on other sites

Having used the Army Painter Pure Red over various colours of undercoat (Red is another colour that is meant to 'pop' with a white undercoat), there was no difference I could see.
