elhohim40k
1st of all hello . long time lurker 1st post etc..:D after seing all the nice true scaling the PCA section and reading the horus heresy serie, I decided to try and make myself a small heresy era task force (1000 to 1500pt is the aim). between the bulk of the true scaled marines and their book performance I just couldnt think of using base stats of a marine. so after looking around the web and my codex here is my idea: using motf/techmarine/thunderfire cannon +tech profiles to count as sgt/vet(motf /w harness profile) line marine(techmarine /w harness) hvy bolter marine(thunderfire+tech) in essence a line trooper with bolter ,bolt pistol, chainsword and assortment of grenades (sort of standart loadout from the books) would be counted as techmarine /w stormbolter(count as the bolter, that s the easy part) /w harness thats where it get messy, I would count the 2servo attack as the chainsword since the books both shows the huge mess it makes of the victim and that at least Vs an armored target it takes time before the sword bit, the plasma pistol I would count as throwing plasma grenades and the flamer I would count as bolt pistol same str/ap ast the storm bolter so ok for using same kind of ammo and from HH novels I can picture the template being the unload full clip while I m allready swinging my chainsword kind of action the techmarine base attacks I see as punching kicking etc artificer armor as power armor to mark both the protection offered and the mobility of the marine in said armor (thats why I ruled out count as terminator,no sweeping) with all that it gives for a line trooper: IC 2+ armor CHOOSE 2 between(2xstr4r g24 ap5 / 1xstr7 rg12 ap2 get hot / 1xstr4 flametemplate ap5) at BS4 1(2 oncharge)xstr4 init4 AND 2xstr8 init1 pw at WS4 the ability the reinforce a ruin/tech I see as either result of preliminary bombardment or just cause they rock ) the repairing ability shouldnt be relevant here cause they will be on foot (allready pushing my skill on the true scaling so I won t even try for now to make true scale rhino ) so? thoughts? obvious or not so obvious flaws ? did I go too far and tread into movie marine territory ? PS I know the using those profile as marines will limit me to less than a full squad in a force org . but that s why I ll have storm trooper count as scouts to play the troop part. and weeell marines shouldn t be a horde at the scale of a 1500pt skirmish no ?(I plan for a demi squad 1sarge/vet 1hvybolter 3line trooper for around 500pts) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242789-heresy-task-force-count-as/ Share on other sites
Olis
Hail and welcome to B&C, brother. Judging by the intent to use beefed up astartes (rules-wise) I'd recommend you stick with Movie Marines, brother. I mean, really, it's something that's already been drawn up and printed, so all you need to do is have that on hand instead of making up your own rules. Not to say this isn't an admirable effort, brother, but I think getting opponents to agree to play you would be easier if you wave a White Dwarf at them instead of a printed up set of your own. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242789-heresy-task-force-count-as/#findComment-2935857 Share on other sites
elhohim40k
err maybe I misunderstand or maybe I wasnt clear in the OP. but I invented nothing.not a single line of text . pure count-as the profile in the OP is 100% the profile of the techmarine from codex marine. I just used count as to have the techmarine profile translated into the loadout of a line trooper marine.and I would use the cost and force org availability from codex of course and frankly I would better use marine base stats than movie marine . I m trying to get marine closer to book performance not the "we sent a demi squad with no ammo to kill every single linving being on the planet but we tied their right hand else there is no challenge" nonsense that are movie marine . I leave that kind of performance to (imho) bad fanfic in the hope that I was more understandable this time (is that english?) G3rman
Not sure why you gravitate toward a techmarine of all codex statlines for "true scale" marines. I would gravitate more toward veteran stats rather than one of the 'specialist' profiles. elhohim40k
I went for motf/techmarine/thunderfire because of a few things I wanted to get the feel of from the books, namely the scope of the battle: at the 1000 1500pt range I feel like a demi squad +army support is the maximum number of marine on the field that meant to me I was looking only at IC profiles. then I wanted similar profiles for all my marines but I yet wanted the ability to field an heavy/special weapon marine that leaves only the motf/techmarine/thunderfire line of profiles who once all equipped with harness have a nice identical profile save for a few bonus from motf wich I fell are just right to show my sgt worth. after that it was just a matter of seing what rule would be modeled as what the troop part will be played by stormtroopers with scout stats (the army support)wich gives a nice stat gap between my marines and army trooper I suppose my question should be reformulated as is there a better way to fill those criteria in another codex? (since I only own codex marine I could only really check this one in depth for my count as) oh and count as only . no house rule. I can get away with count as .. no hope for house rules with the current plan I would model a marine(techmarine profile /servo harness and storm bolter) as bolter(storm bolter profile) chainsword(2xservo arm profile) thrown plasma grenade (plasma pistol from harness profile) bolt pistol(flamer from servo harness profile, I feel thats the biggest concept jump) keep in mind that s since the marine are truescaled both bolter and chainsword will be bigger than standart as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/242789-heresy-task-force-count-as/#findComment-2936283 Share on other sites
