The Host of Worms

What is the paint scheme for them going to be like?

Much like my DP and GUO pictured above. Corroded grey armor, sickly yellow flesh, pinkish-fleshy worms, rusted silver metals.

I have a strong desire to steal your power scythe idea for at least one of my own Terminators. Very nice stuff all the way around. Where are you getting the plastic tubing from?

The tubes are actually metal spring bracelets. Far more flexible than guitar string (no kinking!) and you can run a paperclip through them for rigidity and posing.

This thread should have a disclaimer.

Those tentacles are disgusting.

I've always wanted to start a nurgle warband, but now I'm not sure I'm got the stomach for it.

Excuse me while I go and hurl...

Even better for the hurling, those are worms not tentacles!

I need to get a bit of fluff up to further explain, but the entire warband is just bursting at the seams with an infestation of worms. Mind control, chaos-corrupting worms that can wiggle into the tiniest of cracks in armor. Mathas, Lord of the Host, loves nothing more than infiltrate other Space Marines with his babies who lay thousands of eggs in the bellies of the unsuspecting. He is particularly fond of absorbing other Chaos Space Marine bands, including members already dedicated to Nurgle (much to Typhus and Moritarion's chagrin). But what's funnier than picking on your own siblings?

Not sure why, they're fabulous. Yes, you're making more used of bits and not quite as much greenstuff, but it doesn't matter, they're looking amazing for 'rank-and-file' troops.

Maybe add a bit more to the miniature by adding a bit to the base. Put the odd marine with a foot on a rock or other suitable terrain feature. Have a bit of puss/maggots/worms/other-unspeakable-fluid oozing and puddling at a foot maybe.

Also, as I wrote this I think it may have dawned on me... they need a few more, selectively placed, worms. Crawling up the odd blade, poking from a respirator here, an eye there, and out of the odd joint/seam.

Yeah, I think that is it -- in comparison to my Terminators, they seem tame. Once the 7 are assembled, I'll tie them more in with the Host of Worms motif and that should help quite a bit.

Not feeling them as much as the Terminators. Just not digging them. Can't put my finger on it.

I think it is because there is less surface area to work with compared to a terminator. You can do a lot more to a terminator than you can a regular marine. They look good, but I honestly don't like them as much as your terminators. I'm sure that when you add more stuff like your chapter symbol it will help bring them together.

I love gas masks just as much as the next guy, but I think the terminator style head has much more character. Don't let a few models discourage you from moving forward with the army.

The bases are not heavily textured, but instead painted in an urban/asphalt manner. Black and grey, with debris around. Usually I paint the edges of bases black, but I think with this army I'm going to paint the edges with the same asphalt look. I don't like the bases as much since I matte sealed them, so I may drybrush them again to bring their original look back. Most of the games I'll be playing will be on Zuzzy's urban gaming mat seen here: http://www.zuzzy.com/wc-bb-001-terra-flex-gaming-mat.html

Next on painting deck: started this scheme on the hooded Terminators.

Next on conversion deck: finishing up the Plague Marines and in between putting together Rhinos as well.

Some truly wretched and foul things on this thread, bravo.

I'm not really feeling the asphault base much though, to be honest. Perhaps to spice them up a bit you could try dabbling in water effects, to make slime trails/pools around the feet and footprints of those grubbly nasties.

As the great Jimmy Bartel said after the Geelong Cats won the 2011 AFL premiership: "I'm so happy I'm going to be sick!"

All due kudos for both the vision splendid & the execution thereof. Happy happy thread!

Good stuff all round here; I tend to get a bit tired of the normal Nurgle aesthetic but you've pulled it off well.

Yay for the Ultraforge DP :) I love it. Question though; did you consider making the bulging intestines into actual worms? That could be awesome...

New edition and new CSM book have me firing the sculpting tools and paint brushes back up.

I know this is thread necromancy, but it's my thread for my army, so hope that is cool.

Here's where I'm going with the hooded Terminators I showed earlier:

The other 6 are about 50% done. Going to alternate on them and on building my Plague Marines out.

I started building some oblits out of Isle of Blood Rat Ogres .. but I'm just not feeling them. Not sure where I'm going with them next.

Instead of obliterators, I may just go Havoc squad for heavy support.

Definitely an option. I definitely won't be buying the official models for Mutilators. The Obliterator models are bad enough, but the Mutilator faces are down right comical.

I might be able to continue the Rat Ogre project though for Mutilators.

Or chop up the nice DV Terminators and bigify 'em.

@Rhetoricus: Thanks!

@malika666: Yes, I've had my eyes on those. I like the size, especially as shown in the second pic. I could definitely see turning those into Obliterators for instance. Great sculpt, but as you can probably tell, I like to convert things.

Army list wise, I really need to sit down and make one. I had a goal for the 5th edition CSM book, but never even played. I'm determined to work towards an army list in 6th and get it done in the next few months.

Too bad I put time in on some Rhinos -- everyone is all "NO MOAR RHINOS", or am I wrong?

I'll probably take 'em anyway.

Oh, I like them .. and can already see how to use them.

But as Mutilators? Maybe it's just the crap GW models, but I don't think I'll ever have Mutilators in a list.

Honestly, I've only played 40k twice, as demos, in 4th edition. Ha. I don't know all that much about what is good or not, besides what I read here and on PapaNurgle.com.

At the moment, this is my hobby army. Hopefully I'll play it in 2013. :)

Added more segmented worms now that I have my tube tool from Masq Mini.

Black mace has extended haft now, though I have some straightening to do.

And as you can see, he fits perfectly on the base of bodies.

Question though: does base size really matter in 40k? Can I put my Chaos Lord on a 60mm base instead of 40mm?
