The Makings of the Avenging Angels

Okay guys I hope you guys will help me out I decided to jump off the cliff to see if my ideas can fly!

All Space Marine chapters have Reclusiams that are filled with ancient artefacts and holy relics, an example of this can be found deep within the Monastery Fortress of the Avenging Angels. This ancient relic can be traced back to the times before any of the Primarchs were discovered. The machine is called the Gift of Dorn by the Avenging Angels, it is a well kept secret that is only known by the Avenging Angels and the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Gift of Dorn is a machine that can activate the geneseed of any Space Marine aslong as you have a sample of the Primarchs blood. It is believed that the Emperor used machines like this to build the Legion's of Space Marines despite the Primarchs sudden disappearance.

The history of the Gift of Dorn dates back to the aftermath of the Great Betrayal, a time in which Rogal Dorn lived and smite the foes of the Imperium. Rogal Dorn was exalted for there were none who could stand before him and prosper, those who were blessed with the opportunity to fight for and with him became Legends themselves. One of those Legends was the Chief Apothecary of the Imperial Fist during the last days of Rogal Dorn's life.

According to some records Rogal Dorn died aboard a Chaos warship, and his body was recovered and taken back to the Imperial Fist Battle Barge, The Phalanx. The Chief Apothecary was one of the marines that recovered Dorn's body, he saw the blood of Dorn on the tainted ship floor and thought it to be to sacred to be left in such a corrupt place. He used his narthecium and purity seals to remove the blood from the floors of the warped ship.

The blood of the Primarch was handed over to the Imperial Fist Chapter Master who stored the blood away as a Holy Relic. The Imperial Fist was called upon to make a training cadre to train a new Space Marine Chapter. The group of marines that they chose to train the new chapter were not your stereotypical Imperial Fist. Their achievements were worthy of recognition, but the means in which they accomplish such feats was considered brutal by their peers. As a parting gift the training cadre was given a Holy Relic which contained the Blood of Rogal Dorn as a gift.

The Adeptus Mechanicus knew about the Holy Relic for a long time and had yearned to study it, but never attempted to ask for it. They tried to seduce the new chapter into giving up the Relic with promises of vehicles, weapons, armour, and ships. To the suprise of the Adeptus Mechanicus the young chapter denied them several times until the Adeptus Mechanicus offered them something they could not refuse!

In exchange for a small vial of Rogal Dorn's blood the Adeptus Mechanicus would make a pact with them. They would continously supply the new chapter with as much military equipment as they wanted, they also would build them a fortress monastery comparable to those of the founding chapters. The bargaining piece that finally made the young marines budge was an ancient machine that can insert geneseed into a neophyte and use the blood of the primarch to activate it. The machine is also capable of implanting all of the organs except for the Black Carapace in a short amount of time. Along with its other benefits the machine improves the survival rate by 25% resulting in a process that makes 20% more marines a year.

The Training Cadre could not turn down such an offer. Not only were they going to be blessed with more wargear, space ships, and a large monastery that could accommadate all of it but they were going to be able to make marines alot faster than most chapters! The large machine was secretly moved from Mars to the Avenging Angel's fortress monastery named Dorn's Keep.

They got alot of stuff for Rogal Dorn's blood do you think it was to much?

This is a nice start but there are some temporal problems with the story. I can understand the whole concept of gathering and keeping of sacred blood. The problem comes from the fact that no new chapter was founded soon after Dorns death - depending on the sources several hundered years have passed between the death of Dorn (218 at least) and the 3rd Founding. The second problem is that "The Wall" sounds rather strange, almost like an AI surgeon mixed with Blood Angels sarcophagi. Blood of a Primarch is the most sacred thing a chapter would hold since that would be direc phyisical link to their forefather, I find it improbable that they would be willing to give any of it to the AM for whatever price, though it could be done, not as part of a trade but more as part of a mutual exchange that came out of respect for each others actions in a war of some kind. The thing about Chapters who are not descendants of the Blood Angels is that they do not want to make marines faster, last time recruitment was done faster half of the space marines fell to chaos. Also it is my personal taste but I would drop citing numbers, and go for vague descriptions.

Edit@ it is a very interesting concept that I do not think anyone tried to date as far as I am aware but you sure have your work cut out for you to make this into a good and more importantly believable article

Cheers

First I would like to say thanks for all the comments, everyone has given me positive feedback with some doubt included in it. Basically most of you are saying its a great idea but it needs to be polished. I am trying my best to come up with something that pleases everyone and fits in our beloved 40k universe, and I believe I am really close, but I am not sure how I am going to do that. I believe anyone can help me with my diy, I am going to quote all of the comments I have gotten so far starting from this thread and try to see if I understood them correctly. If you are one of the posters you can correct me yourself, if you are new you can give me your interpretation of what they said, or you can give new advice either way I will appreciate it.

Could be done but I am not sure if it is possible. The Blood Angels insanguination process is vital for the creation of a Blood Angel since Sanguiniuses presence activates the gene-seed, in the same way Space Wovles drink from that cup (can't remember the name ATM) to do the same. The Imperial Fists have their own traditions and ways of creating new space marines so I do not think it would be possible for them to use the insanguination process. For the marines of your chapter to have a small portion of Rogal Dorns blood it is possible for various reasons.

What I got from this was that Hrvat at the time was unsure if Imperial Fist could use the insanguination process to activate the geneseed. In my research I found out that there are numerous ways to activate the geneseed and that it really depends on the chapter. My major concern was that perhaps a new chapter would be to stubborn to try a new marine creating process, but I try to counter that with the training cadre being different from the stereotypical Imperial Fist. I guess you could consider the 3rd founding chapter to be the first wild child a chapter that has very little in common with its predecessor, nor will they follow the codex!

Bear in mind that that first apothecary probably doenst know any other way to implant new marines... And why would he be so keen to discard something he's been brought to view as a holy act, ordained by his Primarch as the way it should be done?

Leonaides literally slammed most of my ideas into a wall! I initially was going to have the apothecary be part of the training cadre but after this that whole idea was out the window.

Imp Fists are pretty traditional and slow to change. Why would a marine who fought alongside Rogal Dorn seek to better the Primarch's implantation process? As Leonaides brought up, you are basically either discarding the Primarch, or outright stating you can improve on him. Perhaps instead of having the Insanguination be a part of the implantation process, make it the very last ritual act to being a brother of the chapter. They have to take the blood of Rogal Dorn into them and share in its glory and strength. As a flaw, perhaps Dorn rejects or doesn't interact with all the recruits, leading some complications or a problem, since Dorn's spirit is basically rejecting these initiates?

I like the idea of the Apothecary taking the blood, but I think you would need more than a vial. Perhaps he recovered a significant amount, and as a reward for his legendary life/deeds, the Imp Fist chapter master gifts all of it to him and his new chapter, passing on the blood like other chapters might pass on a holy relic or piece of their Primarch. Just some thoughts for you, otherwise I like the idea of insanguination being tried by other chapters.

I was honored that the great shinz stop by to help me out! :D

Shinzaren basically reinforced what Leonaides said about the apothecary so I knew for sure I could not include him in the training cadre or having anything to do with the creation of the new chapter.

Shinzaren wanted the insanguination to be the last part of the process, but I want it to be the first major step because of the curse! I think that some of the Imperial Fist would be in a depress state because of the death of their primarch. My cadre are part of this group who are depressed and take out their frustrations on the battlefield. The curse is similar to the Blood Angel's Curse except that the marines inherits Dorn's guilt. Dorn blamed himself for the Imperium's condition and he literally was throwing himself at the enemy with the penitence crusade not to mention the Iron Cage. I want my chapter to have that flaw and that is one of the reasons why the equipment pact and the Gift of Dorn (the machine) is vital as it allows them to replace casualties and equipment alot easier.

Like I said earlier it became clear that I could not use the same apothecary, but I did use the gift idea as it was brilliant and answered the major question how did they get the blood!

should point out that the crimson fists most holy relic of all was a mace with a crystal head, containing a measure of dorns blood. This was seriously special, so try not to overdo the amount your chapter gets...

This reinforced my idea that having some of the Primarch's Blood is not farfetched, I dont know exactly what the Holy Relic should be I just refer to it as the Holy Relic, if anyone has any ideas I am listening.

Thanks Hrvat, the further away from Dorn's Death the more its likely for the chapter to use a new process instead of the same ole way. Yes, the machine is very complex that is why it would actually be worthy of a trade. They did not give their holy relic away just a small vial of blood away, also a container of blood is no where near as holy as the physical body that some chapters have. I am not trying to be like the blood angels I just got the idea from the blood angels, the chapter needs to make marines faster because of their curse.
