Mungers Space Wolves

I don't get to play much so mainly just paint for the fun of it. Here is some of my recent and not so recent work.

The dreadnought has ideas and inspiration from Brandon Griffith, Wiltrichs and Kim Syberg so I do not claim the ideas were my own but I adapted them for my own piece of work.

Love your weathering, some pointers?

Thanks for all the nice comments, although I think I have made a few errors with the photos as they seem very overexposed now I look at them

The dreadnought weathering was using the hairspray technique.

I airbrushed on different shades of reds and browns thinly all over the miniature.

I then sealed it with a coat of GW Purity Seal

When the purity seal was fully dry (left it for 24 hours but you don't have too) I sprayed over a decent coat of hairspray.

I then sprayed over my basecoat and zenithal highlights and shadows although my photos are over exposed so they don't show that great.

Once all that was dry and I was happy with it I took a few different brushes and a toothpick and some warm water and scraped away the basecoats to reveal the colours underneath.

I then underlined a few chips with space wolfs grey and white mixed with a touch of fortress grey.

The trick with chipping is not to go overboard, although I regularly do to be honest lol.

its quite a common method nowadays. I used this method on the dread only. The landspeeder was all by hand and bits of blister sponge but the colours were the same.

My next experiment will be on 2 land raiders where i intend to weather them a lot more and try a new colour recipe.

here is my Contemptor Dreadnought which was doen with maskol liquid to do the chips.

I have weathered him more sicne these shots but you get the idea. Also the grey used was different as was meant to be Heresy colours

Truly inspiring work.

Will have to save these pictures for future reference.

I noticed that though incredibly well weathered you haven't added any leaking lubricants and oil streaks on the models.

Is that a conscious decision?

OOps :)

I actually missed that out by mistake, I think I will add in some grime and oil stains now you mention it - cheers :P

And that weathering is the sponge technique?

on the venerable dreadnought its the hairspray technique and the others is freehand or sponge or maskol (maskol is sort of similair to the hairspray technique as you apply it over a rusty looking basecoat then paint or airbrush over it then remove the maskol with a rubber or blue tac

a combination of both on a model can work very well. for instance the red strips on the ven dread were painted over a small amount of maskol then it was rubbed off to the the strips like they were chipped.

Munger, I've been looking over your pics for sometime now, I then came across them again on Coolminiornot. Now while I think your Mech is most certainly kick a$$, something continually seemed off with your infantry. Your bare headed wolf brothers all have a look of suprise on their face, because their eyes are not lined, and the pupil is a dot as opposed to connecting the top of the eye to the bottom. When working on faces do you paint your eyes first or last? I've personally tried both, and achieved the best results when you do them about 1/3 of the way in. Throw your base coat over the face, and your inital wash. Then pick out the eye, that way if you apply to much white you can throw some more wash arround it to bring it back into shape. Instead of a dot for the pupil it should be a line clearly dividing the white, you can move that line to give the impression of the model focusing it gaze in a certain direction. I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your work in the near future.

Brother Mjollner.

Brother Mjollner.

The infantry work was lazy on the face to be honest. I normally spend a lot more time on them but they were hastily painted for AOP. I will eventually get some of my charachter work up and the eyes are much better.

Your right though I should go back and fix the infantry as they look stupid lol.

Thought I would post what I’m working on for the end of the year. These land raiders and the Rhino have been gathering dust for sometime and with the release of the new Imperial Armour – The Doom of Mymeara I thought I would add to my growing army for Bran Redmaw.

I used the pictures of the Land Raiders on page 122 and page 58 and the Rhino from page 123. The Land Raider patterns they use I don’t have but I’m going on the markings more than anything.

The 3 vehicles have been done using the hairspray teqnique again and chipped around the edges.

The transfers have been added earlier than usual as I’m aiming to do a lot of weathering on these tanks very soon.

Comments are always welcome.
