Terminator apothecary

With the release of the GK apothecary I thought it would be good to try and blend the pieces with a standard termi but without using the distinctive GK body

Also, before I get shot down this is purely for modeling purposes and not for use.

Im happy with the build so I thought Id use the GK sword technique on this but Im not sure the colours go and I may be better doing it the old fashioned red/black lava method.

Let me know what you think. (Ive also got the light/sensor back attachments that I'll put on at the end. Thanks

Theres also all the detail, highlighting and base to do so its not finished yet

Heres the other power weapon style I thought of doing.

I must disagree with my brothers above: The red looks fantastic and it would really stand out on a white model, since the warm colours really pops out from the white and blue. I don't think you should aim for the weapon to melt in with the rest of the model, but stand out clearly, which the red one will accomplish easily.

Hey UltraRich that is a cracking pair of mini's mate! Love your free hand on the Apoth - truely great work! Both mini's are very well painted. I think the secod power sword looks the best IMHO, really like the lava flow look to it. I like the way the Apoth is painted, a dullish white with a kinda dull blue shoulder pauldron. Very classy. Also the GK head goes really well with it compared to the normal termie heads.I like the GK Apoth kits, certainly look the dogs dinner in my view. Looking forward to seeing these completed. Great work mate :o

Thanks Guys

I think I'll push on with it still blue and then see how it looks afterwards.

If I leave the sword blue I might change the damaged terminator helmet on the base to red to give it some contrast

Looks good I vote blue. Quick question the sword arm shoulder pad looks smaller why?

Its an optical illusion. They are definately the same size. I think its the angle of the picture.

Love the model it self ... random as this is ... the Termi helm on the base could have its eyes blacked out ... because it looks incomplete just one color.

Thanks. This is far from finished and Ive a load to do on this including the helmet on the base. Thats just a base colour to help me to see how its coming together.

Hopefully I can get a couple of hours on this this evening and finish it

Wow! just... wow!

looks freaking awesome so far, and the power weapon effects... <_<

EDIT: oh, and to answer your question, the current looks stunning, but maybe red would contrast better with the apothecarys white armour...?

The blue power sword is the way to go I think. I really like how it looks, how did you do it?

It was done with my airbrush. First spray white then blue half way then black at the end. Once you have done that repeat but the other way around on the other side.

Ive managed to get a couple of hours in this afternoon so heres the progress. Theres still a chunk of detailing to do but its coming together.

Well I managed to screw up the powersword and drop a thumb print in the middle of it grrrrrr.

I thought Id see what it looks like as a lava power sword.

What do you think? Better Blue or red? This needs more blending but you get the idea

Crappy focus but you get the idea

The red sword looks much better in my opinion. How did you do it?

Its not fully blended yet but its pretty simple

Paint it black

Paint the areas you want the colour red but paint it bigger than you want so its over the black.

Paint orange over the red painting bigger than you want so its over painted

Then paint yellow over the orange (I do a couple of blends here)

Then wash the black areas with badab black ink overlapping the red. do this several times and the black and red blend (now you see why you overpainted)

Then wash the red / orange areas with baal red overlapping the orange. do this several times and the orange and red blend

Pick out your highlights in yellow/orange/white.

Give it all a final wash in thinned baal red and its done.

I'm glad you came back to red. I really think it sets off the rest of the figure.

Besides...red ones slash fasta...<yeah, I had to go there>

Excellent model.

I thought the blue looked better, but that is just me. I also prefer the other style of power weapon you had rather than the 'lightning' pattern. I'm glad that you held off on the battle damage despite the fact that the apothecary would probably be one of the most damaged marines (from running from marine to marine on the battlefield.)

That's a great model and great effect on the sword, but I do see space hulk termies in the back ground...and one of them is turning over a tyrannid....how did you find taking all the blood drops off?

Speaking of Space Hulk terminators, I think it is a crime against humanity to convert those models for 40k playing in any army other than Blood Angels or successor. The sculpts are too pretty and the Space Hulk game is too much fun to change those models.

That is all.

*Hides terminators*

Half the fun of converting those models is because they're for Space Hulk. They're different, individual and good sculpts. Regular termies can be a bit boring once you know these guys are out there.
