I hereby dub thee the greatest person on Earth. You may rise.

Im going to take a shot in the dark and guess that they're inserting a new battle to fill the space between the Siege and Istvaan. And I agree with the idea that it's Graham's IF vs. EC.

My guess it is going to be a book about the battle in the Phall system: the part of the Imperial Fists legion that was sent to Isstvan after the recovery of the Eisenstein, but got stuck at the Phall system by warp storms. The Iron Warriors legion was sent there by Horus to intercept the Imperial Fists.

In short: Imperial Fists vs Iron Warriors p(*^-^*)q

Checked the css to see if maybe the full picture actually was published behind the black tiles, or if the unrevealed pieces of the pic could be retrieved somehow, but the pic is cut up and the missing pieces are not published. It was a longshot and it would have been to easy (and it would have been cheating )...

Wow, that ship battle looks pretty sweet. Can't wait for more of it to be revealed.

Is it just me, or does the ship's armor look really thin and made of... concrete? It might just be a lack of perspective from an incomplete picture.

The new picture seems to have a symbol or icon on it that looks like the bottom half of a bird sitting on a branch or maybe a scaled or feathered fist holding a flower. Interesting........

Indeed...

It does look like the bottom half of a bird. I think one claw is holding a sword and the other... I can't really tell.

Most interesting...

Good catch! :D

Hmm. It does appear to have what looks like rebar in it.

Now I've seen the partial picture (cheers CMID) I'm itching to see the full picture. Hurryupchristmashurryupchristmas...C'MON ALREADY!!! :P

I can safely say I didn't do that. It was the ever amazing Sponsra.

It's an Imperial eagle. By that I mean the type used historically in Europe as it has a sword in one claw and an orb in the other.

For example the Habsburg crest:http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dav4is/images/hapsburg.jpg

I see. Well then, full credit to Sponsra then. ;)

+1 for this. Was my first thought.

Two headed eagle, sword in one hand, orb in the other. I'm seeing connections

Notice the shoulder pad, sure is a lot of yellow/black strip, as said how many legion use this apart from the all might Iron Warriors :) Got to say the armour look cool as well. Though it look like he been shot to the head as you can see blood just near the top (boo!)

I don't know if Iron Warriors would have pretty little lines all over their armour.

I was going to point out that we have fleet action going on in the background, and this is one of the first covers with fleet details.

Could we possibly be up to the siege of Terra? I don't know much about this Phall system action, but with the release of Age of Darkness, I'm wondering if we are coming, at last, to the end of the heresy.

Agreed.

Found this interesting:

orb, emblem of royal power, usually made of precious metal and jewels and consisting of a sphere surmounted by a cross. The ball as a symbol of the cosmos, or of the universe as a harmonious whole, is derived from the ancient Romans, who associated it with Jupiter and, hence, with the emperor as his earthly representative.

Christians adapted the symbol by setting a cross above the ball to signify the world dominated by Christianity. Rulers were often depicted with the orb, but the first to hold it in hand at his coronation was the Holy Roman emperor Henry II in 1014; thereafter the “imperial apple” became an important emblem of the royal power invested in the monarch.

I didn't realise the orb went back to the ancients. It's also a nice coincidence what with the relationship with Mars and the resurrection orbs of the Necrons.
