IA: Argent Shades

Like I said with the Cleric thing, having a theme for the Chapter can go a long ways to help flesh out certain things, like names.

Since your theme right now is basically loyalist Emperor's Children, which I believe is the only Legion to have eagle markings pre-Heresy, having an eagle-inspired name works, or one that mentions the talon or wing.

Going along with that, I could come up with:

Eagle's Sons, where the "Eagle" is perhaps a Founding Father's nickname or their name for the Emperor

Emperor's Eagles, which is self-explanatory

Emperor's Talons

Winged Sons - god that sounded better in my head

etc etc. Feel free to use of one of these, but I just intend them as examples to show you what I mean.

8) There are three main companies all of which run autonomously and are the size of 2-3 normal companies. The chapter is lead by the three captains and, their is no chapter master unless the whole chapter goes to war then on is elected.

That's exactly what I kind of did with my Imperial Dragons. Even though you beat me to the punch with it, I don't think it'll matter if I utilize it as well.

Eagles of <insert homeworld name>? tongue.gif

Eagle Knights

Warrior Eagles

Home world name currently is Skyfall so that one actually sounds kinda cool. Personally I find the other two a bit generic.

I have long thought War Eagles is a solid name.

Its nice but doesn't really flow much....

Edit: at this point I like both: The Purifiers, and Eagles of Skyfall. Which of these two sound best to all of you?

Edit: The Purifiers are taken So I will go with Eagles of Skyfall for now, but if you have other ideas post them. In the mean time I'm working on the IA article and will post it when I'm done.

Eagles of <insert homeworld name>? :P

Eagle Knights

Warrior Eagles

I can't really think of anything more, what is their colour scheme by the way? OR are you still using that nice white one someone quoted?

Yes I will still use the same scheme. I like it a lot, so It's the only thing that won't change :D

I assure you, Purifiers won't be taken for long. It's part of the curse, you see. Soon, the IA will fail and I'll be forced to seek yet another member to take the name.

Well if it comes up I'll use it as I quite like the name ;)

Edit: Note to all readers I have edited the OP Please give your thoughts

Skyfall already exists in the official material...

Codex Space Marines 5th Edition, page 27 - Invaders:

"Currently under-strength after an all-out assault on Eldar Craftworld Idharae, the Invaders Chapter is reported as operating in a support role to the Novamarines on the doomed planet Skyfall."

:tu: I missed that...

If Skyfall is already taken, perhaps the eagle-themed names could go to it, like Eagleholm, or your fortress-monastery could be called The Talon, following the same visual theme as the The Fang, fortress-monastery of the Space Wolves.

However, I just read your revised OP, and it says you're going Fleet-based. But, you'll still need recruitment worlds, so the above information might still be useful.

One thing stood out to me in the revised OP: When you say the three Captains fight for temporary over-all command, what do you mean? Do they simply test themselves against each other to find the one most worthy of the role, or is it a last man standing sort of thing? Does this lead to any internal strife between the companies, or is it something the Chapter accepts as "healthy rivalry?"

Well, how many "Skyfall"'s are there in the Imperium? I'd imagine planet names are similiar to city names in the sense that the names may repeat as you travel from sector to sector and segementum to segmentum.

Alternatively... heaven's landing, Skyrim (Yes i am shamelessly using a game title), Eagle's Nest...

A note: Based on your revised list, you want to "Send marines into the deathwatch for training". That is not the purpose of the Deathwatch. They are the premier xenos hunting chapter, but they recruit only from the best. Service in the deathwatch is considered (usually) a high honor, but they are not a training camp.

However, the Deathwatch rules, and I love having DW vets in my chapter.

@ Cormac: they have a sort of duel to see who becomes the temp. CM

@ blackoption you make a good point about the deathwatch.. Maybe I will do something more along the lines of: due to their hatred for xenos and, and the fact that they are fighting them almost constantly the deathwatch requests many of them to be seconded. Our something like that.

OP has become IA first draft Please read and give feedback!

I was looking on Lexicanum at the list of space marine chapters and found the Night Hawks... They had no real history out side of one battle, so basically a clean slate..

Should I consider this name despite the fact its already used or not?

Thanks,

Rylanor

here's my list of chapter names for ya...

Spectral Eagles

Space Phoenixs

Eagle Knights

Golden Falcons

Knights of the Aquila

Sons of Au ( Au being the chemical element of gold)

Spectral Eagles.... Hmmm... I like this name... Or maybe Spectral Phoenixes

Founding: 26th

Origins:

Much of their past is unknown, except for one main event.

Beware, I'm hater No. 1° when it comes to origins shrouded in mystery.

In your case, the Chapter of Argent Shades was founded in 26th Founding in 738.M41. The current date is 999.M41. Simple math give us result of 261 years. That's right, your Chapter hasn't been around here longer than average lifespan of Space Marine. ;)

So, if the entire Chapter was not mind-wiped during this period, it's very likely that the marines remember the humble origins of the Chapter.

The garrison of The Citadel, and now its defenders were led by the *Ancient* dreadnought known only as Spectre.

See above.

Beliefs:

The Argent Shades believe that the emperor was a man and not a god but they do see him as an example of human purity that all members of the Argent Shades strive to emulate. This belief has led to the combination of Chaplains and Apothecaries, who see to both the spiritual and physical purity of the chapters warriors. They are simply known as the Guardians This belief in physical purity has led to conflicts with chapters like the Iron Hands that belief the human form is weak and replace themselves with bionic prosthesis. The Argent Shades will not fight along side these chapters unless absolutely necessary. The Argent Shades wear totems and trophies on their armor and also are tattooed by the Guardians to record victories and battle honors. The chapters most respected members have these tattoos all over their bodies, commemorating long years of service and triumphs.

Oh the irony. :tu:

The gene-seed of RavenGuard is unstable and damaged beyond repair with some organs missing or not working properly.

Cheers, NightrawenII.
