So I picked up the Limited Edition Dark Vengeance set. I couldn't resist the temptation to paint those figures. After opening it up I decided I would try my hand at converting the Dark Angels figures to Ultramarines. I'll apologize now to all the Dark Angels players out there. I've completed half the tactical squad, the chapter master, and one terminator. Many hours were spent filing off the Dark Angel icons and pendants.

 

First up is the Chapter Master, converted to be the Sgt. for my Robed Veterans.

Finished up a Land Raider. I tried painting the front and rear recessed sections white like I had done on the Deimos Razorback. They turned out pretty well, however I added Ultramarine logos on the white surface and then painted blue over it. The blue didn't turn out well at all so I had to try to remove them. I'm really happy with the white sections. I'm thinking about doing it any upcoming vehicles.

I really like the Terminator Srgt converted from the FW Huron figure.

Some really nice Ultras, loving the old school look.  The only thing that looks a bit out of place is the bases if I am honest - the green looks a bit out of place with the ballast you are using - if you edged them in grey then they might tie together a bit better.  Other than that, excellent work, keep churning out the minis!

Thanks for the praise everyone, I've been on vacation this last week and I'm proud to say a few WIP marines came along to get finished up. I realized after posting my photos of my converted Huron that he had the wrong banner and so it will swapped out with a terminator banner later on. I'll have an update with some new marines tonight.

 

-IronDuke: After reading your post about possibly changing the base trim to grey I really gave it some serious thought because you make a valid point, it does look a little off. The problem I face is simply the massive quantity of marines I would have to go back and change the bases. At this point I'm well past the halfway point of an entire company and the thought of pulling them all out and redoing the bases is just too daunting.

A pretty big update today.  Finished the last Dark Vengence terminator.  I couldn't stand the bunny ears so they got chopped off and the targeter box was moved to his right shoulder.

And the final member of the 2nd Tactical Squad, this squad had a full complement but after getting a copy of the codex I realized the weapons loadout was wrong so a member got promoted to the command squad and this fella joined 2nd squad.

After seeing the closeups I realize he needs a little bit of touchup with his eyes and his shoulder guard.

I'm currently working on the Librarian for the 1st Company.  Its the librarian in Terminator armor and lucky for me its the finetrash edition.  Whoever is responsible for these molds needs to be moved from their current position to the mail room.

Overall I'm very happy with how it came out.  I added a little bit of green shading around his face, hood, and his staff weapon.  I think the effect comes across.

 

I also finished up the 1st Company Chaplain in Terminator Armor.  I have to say this is one of my most favorite figures if not on the top of the list.  I finished him up and sat and stared at it for a while thinking that something is missing.  Normally my final treatment other than decals is to wash them with a black wash.  Well washing a black figure is useless but he just didn't look complete.  So I picked up a bottle of grey and started to highlight all the edges on his armor plates.  I'm exceedingly happy with how it turned out and it will probably show up on some future figures as well.

And finally a predator armed with a plasma turret and lascannon sponsons.  I ordered it from certain auction location and when it arrived it was a clear recast from China.  Unfortunately, returns weren't allowed so I made do.  The cast overall was not bad, however the major components of the tank were a severe pain to assemble given warping and shrinking in very odd places.

Finished up my first Land Speeder tonight.  It is from the 8th Company 1st Squad.  The cast on this one was terrible, I had to use mini bar clamps to align all the major structural pieces and green stuff to fill in the remaining gaps.

I was digging through my cabinet of finished figures when I realized I had never washed my vindicator or one of my predators.  Nor did the vindicator have a dozer blade which just looked odd.  I spent a couple days trolling ebay and finally found one.
