The allied marines won first turn and we chose to keep it. However we allowed the Nids to set the scenery on his half of the table however he wished first. He placed a few sets of ruins for some cover at his frontline and then placed a forested area just left of center on his frontline. He also dropped a few smaller pieces of difficult terrain somewhat randomly in the center of the table and behind his lines to give himself good cut off points and slow us down if he should need to fallback. We then placed our little Imperial outpost. In the backfield we placed the Ammo Dump to our right, our Command Post in the center and the Landing Pad to the left. We also placed a Barricade further out to the right and between the CP and LP in the backfield. Ahead of that we placed a ruined section of building and several barricades and a sandbag emplacement at out frontline. Then we placed our objective just behind the CP with my 6 Hunters and the Plasma half of one of the Tactis standing guard, their immediate support is two rhinos carrying the other half of his combat squads. We set up a simple gunline on our frontline utilizing the barricades, ruins and sandbags for cover. Left to right Frontline: LRC, V. Dread, Fangs, Razor, Bjorn, Vindi, LRC 2nd Row: Vindi, Plasma Tactis (on CP roof), TWC (behind Bjorn), Pred, Plasma Tactis (on LP) 3rd Row: Pred, 6 Hunters, Tacti Rhino, Razor, Tacti Rhino I failed to get any shots of the Nids setup but their player did so hopefully hell put them on facebook and I can snag them. Imperial Turn 1 My Venerable Dread Pods arrive and both scatter a little ways off target, landing closer to the table edge than I would have liked but still within range of the Warriors and a brood of Biovores. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads..._6749_65046.jpg Left to Right frontline: LRC cruises forward and the Ven Dread plods up giving the Vindi room to cruise up as well. The TL Lascannon Pred moves up behind the Fangs. One Razor and Bjorn move behind the sandbags. The other Razor flanks Bjorns left. The Vindi powers forward knowing it wont make it into range. The TWC follow the vindicator. My other Pred moves along the left side of the TWC. The last LRC zooms forward also out of range. In our backfield the Rhinos move around the CP a bit just to look buisy. The deep striking Ven Dreads both choose to unload their Assault cannons supported by the Pod mounted Storm Bolters into the warrior brood. The Plasma Ven Dread fires at the warriors as well, along with the heavy bolters from the Fangs and one of the razors. The Twin Las Pred, two Kraks from the fangs and Bjorn all unleash on the center Tyrant. The other Razor fires on the Ripper Shield protecting the center Tyrant. The TWC dash through the ruins as the Autocannon Pred fires it sponsons at the Tervigon but misses. The CP Tacticals fire at the reippers in front of center Tyrant but miss and the LP Tacticals fire on the Tervigon but it passes its cover save. At the end of the Imperial shooting phase the Warriors still had 5 unwounded models, the center Tyrant and one ripper base took 1 wound each. Tyranids Turn 1 The Tyranids scuttle forwards relentlessly. The Tervigon spawns 8 more Gants and leads its growing brood forwards. The Warriors venom cannon and the biovores fire at the Fangs killing one of the HB brothers. The Heavy Venom Cannons fire at the LRC only one hits but fails to do any damage. The Carnifex breaks for the cover of the forest. End Turn 1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243518-game-in-progress/ Share on other sites
Sgt. Tiberus Satio
"Bring forth the Emperor's wrath and purge the world clean of the xeno threat that has come forth. We stand together as brothers, bleed as one, die in his service. We are his angels of death, we know no fear." Awesome setup for lists, I would of elected more terrain, but love the aspect of "we're going to get over ran anyway" outlook this has. I wish the best of dice to the allies and for you to bring forth the vengence upon the foe. Can't wait for more. Wulf Vengis
Honestly we were pleased with the terrain outcome, mainly because we wound up with alot of tanks. Not exactly what I was expecting. So when I set up our terrain I took all our vehicles into account and tried to pathways for the tanks and Dreads to move through and still leave fire lanes open for the sloggers as well the other vehicles. After posting that first rundown I almost wish the Nids had done a little more...anything more on their first turn. They really did just scuttle forwards but not much I can do about that. Were all in agreement that when the forces meet in the center its going to be Hel on +Unnamed Plywood World 714+ especially when the Genestealers and Lictor all show up in our backfield and try to claim that Objective hidden behind our Command Post (come on, admit it, thats where you would deploy the Stealers and Lictor too). Sgt. Tiberus Satio
I wouldn't deploy them other than on my mantle piece or on my Rhino chassis as I ride to glory. I think it should play out to be a lot of fun. That is a whole heap of Nids too, I only know one person personally who owns 20k+ points of marines (several chapters full battle companies). librisrouge
I've tried to talk my brother-in-law to do the same with a Leman Russ (proxy as Predator) but he won't until it has rules in the 'dex. Wulf Vengis
Ive got two of the bloody tanks and only one actual Pred (still not built had a glue shortage a while back), so I go for the classic 3rd ed feel by building my LREs to fit the Preds loadouts. Other than those two tanks I only have two other proxies on the table. One of my HB Fangs is (or rather was hes dead now) was actually a PC fang, and one of my Razors has the TLLascannon loadout but is acting as a TLHB for this battle. Im sure youll see those two Thunder Wolves arent finished yet but the others are at a friends house hunting those filthy green angels. Grrr... I keep looking over at the table and just itching to play, but I have to wait for the other two players to have the time. I am this close <---> to playing the rest of the game alone. Wulf Vengis
Ok, so my apologies on not coming back to this, we did play it out, I did take photos and I did upload them to the computer. However the computer crashed and I lost the pics so I could no longer give the turn by turn breakdowns. The game was played out across 5 turns, the forces of man stopped the swarm and claimed victory by one objective (Bjorn) held by half of a tactical squad and the last ML and HB Long Fangs. In the nid deployment zone on their objective we had killed the last hive tyrant on the final turn leaving the hammernators, Thunder Wolves and a Ven Dread on the objective. Good news though were planning another game soon, and I plan to post a running battle report again. This time youl get the whole story. They had won precious time and saved thousands of Imperial lives by evacuating the citizens of the capital city with their own transport ships. With this victory the Ultramarines commander pulled his forces from the planet and prepared to break orbit. Scouts of the Space Wolves forces had been stalking the retreating tyranid organisms however and had discovered that other cities were still fighting the endless swarms of the hivemind. Upon learning of this knowledge and hearing of the Ultramarines extraction the commander of the Wolves flew into a terrible rage calling them cowards and challenging their honor. Summoning his entire company to the planets surface they each took an oath to rescue as many of the remaining Imperial citizens as they could. With his forces gathered the Wolves commander devised a plan to reclaim Plyworld 42-AE-0 from the tyranid invasion. A mysterious winter storm blew in behind the tyranid forces besieging Aldonis Hive and from its mists marched a fleet of the massive monstrosities the Astartes classify as Dreadnoughts. Scurrying around their feet were Astartes carrying heavy weapons, black and white stripes disguised them through the snow and sleet. The storm raged from the top of a tower and when it finally subsided no less than seven of the terrible machines stood side by side with the heavy weapons teams called Long Fangs. These combined forces made an impressive gunline even from my vantage point within the doomed city, and to my amazement there wash flash of lightning that struck a tower in the distance and in its wake stood one of the Wolves mysterious Rune Priests. With the thunder that followed the flash of light the gun line exploded into the tyranid forces drawing their attention from the city. It seemed a lost cause for the smaller forces of the Wolves as their tyranid opponents seemed endless in number. However as the tyranid swarm closed on the forces of the Wolves the personal land raider of Marneus Calgar could be seen leading Ultramarine reinforcements to the line. Calgar had heard the slight to his chapters reputation and accepted the challenge of the Wolf Lord. ++ Tactical Information ++ ++ Space Wolf Forces 2965pts ++ Bjorn the Fell-handed: P Cannon Rune Lord Zeth: MotR/ R Armor/ WTN/ WTT/ CotS V Dread: P Cannon/ H Flamer/ Armor/ WTN/ WTT V Dread: P Cannon/ H Flamer/ Armor/ WTN/ WTT V Dread: P Cannon/ H Flamer/ Armor/ WTN/ WTT Hunters x5: Mgun/ Pfist/ MotW Hunters x5: Mgun/ Pfist/ MotW Hunters x5: Mgun/ Pfist/ MotW Hunters x5: Mgun/ Pfist/ MotW Hunters x5: Mgun/ Pfist/ MotW Hunters x5: Mgun/ Pfist/ MotW TWC x1: Bgun/ Shield/ MotW TWC x1: Bgun/ Shield/ MotW TWC x1: Bgun/ Shield/ MotW Fangs x6: Missile x3/ Lcannon x2 Fangs x6: Missile x3/ Lcannon x2 Fangs x6: Missile x3/ Lcannon x2 Dread: Assault Cannon/ TL Autocannon/ Armor/ WTN/ WTT Dread: Assault Cannon/ TL Autocannon/ Armor/ WTN/ WTT Dread: Assault Cannon/ TL Autocannon/ Armor/ WTN/ WTT ++ Ultramarine Forces 3035pts ++ Marneus Calgar: Armor of Antilochus Pedro Kantor Terminators x10: Assault Cannon Assault Terminators x5: Hammer & Shield x5 V Dread: H Flamer UNKNOWN TROOPS UNITS Razorback: Twin-linked Lascannon Razorback: Twin-linked Lascannon UNKNOWN FAST ATTACK UNITS Vindicator: Siege Shield Vindicator: Siege Shield Land Raider Crusader: Multimelta Land Raider Crusader: Multimelta ++ Tyranid Siege Forces ++ Parasite of Mortrex Rippers x9: Spinefists/ Adrenal Glands/ Toxin Sacs/ Tunnel Genestealers x20: Scything/ Adrenal/ Toxin/ Brood Lord: Scything/ Implant Attack/ Acid Blood Genestealers x20: Scything/ Adrenal/ Toxin/ Brood Lord: Scything/ Implant Attack/ Acid Blood Genestealers x20: Scything/ Adrenal/ Toxin/ Brood Lord: Scything/ Implant Attack/ Acid Blood Zoanthropes x3: Spore Pod: Venom Cannon Doom of Malantai Carnifex: Crushing Claws/ Frag Spines/ Bio-plasma/ Regen/ Spore Pod: Venom Cannon Carnifex: Crushing Claws/ Frag Spines/ Bio-plasma/ Regen/ Spore Pod: Venom Cannon Hive Tyrant: Twin-linked Devourers/ Heavy Venom Cannon/ Commander/ Regen/ Armor Shell Swarmlord Termagants x30: Strangleweb x3/ Devourers/ Adrenal Glands/ Toxin Sacs Termagants x30: Strangleweb x3/ Devourers/ Adrenal Glands/ Toxin Sacs Termagants x30: Strangleweb x3/ Devourers/ Adrenal Glands/ Toxin Sacs Tervigon: Regen/ Catalyst/ Onslaught Tervigon: Regen/ Catalyst/ Onslaught Tyrannofex: Rupture Cannon/ Regen Tyrannofex: Rupture Cannon/ Regen Venomthropes x3 Venomthropes x3 Zoanthrope x3 ++ Rebuffering ++ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243518-game-in-progress/#findComment-2962298 Share on other sites
Wulf Vengis
TYRANID TURN 1 The tervigons spawn 11 gaunts on their left and 12 on their right. The Tyrannofexes(?) and tervigon remain stationary. The Tyrant, Lord and Gaunts all push forward under the cover of the Venomthropes. The Zoanthropes move behind the landing pad with one on top. During the shooting pahse the Tyrannofexes manage to shake a ven. dread and the zoanthrope and tyrant fail to hit their targets. Everything else ran forward. IMPERIAL TRUN 1 We stood our ground. Two orbital bombardments ripped up the center and far left Termagant swarms causing 15 casualties in the center and 12 to the left swarm. My dreads and ven dreads put a wound on the zoanthrope and 3 more into the left termagants, a few wounds on the far right gants. The long fangs and rune priest on the tower failed to wound anything even though the priest got 5 shots and hits with Living Lightning. My two packs of Fangs on the far right put 2 wounds on the swarmlord and scattered frags onto the tervigon and swarmlord (failed) as well killed 4 gants with a frag. The vindicators failed to wound anything but the Ultras plas cannons and Lazorbacks put a killed on venomthrope on our right and the entire venomthrope brood on our left.
