Lord Melvin
After many many months of delay, procrastination, and "I'll get it done later", I have finally finished Calgar and his honour guard. I experimented with the squad far more than I ever have with any of my other models. In fact, it was my first time dry brushing, and I'm quite happy with the results. They're painted with simple Ultramarine Blue over a Chaos Black basecoat. The gold bits are Shining Gold heavily dry-brushed with Mithril Silver. The gunmetal is Mithril Silver with a walnut ink wash. The parchment is Elf Flesh with the same walnut ink wash. The leather is Red Gore with, you guessed it, walnut ink. The cloaks are Blood Red with an ink wash, the mud was a custom blend of Elf Flesh and Chaos Black. I rushed the banner a bit, but it was a real pain to paint without a good detail brush. I think the Champion came out best. I'm really happy with how he turned out, especially the helmet. Let me know what you think. Now that I've got a camera, I can start posting the rest of my brothers! Courage and Honour! Solid Zaku
It's not bad. It needs highlighting to make the colors stand out, but it's a good start, certainly. Heru2012
The paintings ok! Acceptable gaming standard....but please god tell me you're not leaving the bases like that?!! Lord Melvin
@Solid Zaku: Highlighting is something I need to work on (I usually just end up getting paint all over the model and it looks gross). I need to do a lot more research into techniques, but I can definitely agree that it would make the models look way better. @Heru2012: The bases....I need to get my hands on some sand, because I want to make all of my models look like their standing on a road. However, the group that I usually game with requires painted bases, so the green is a stand in. In short, no, the bases will NOT be staying like that... Solid Zaku
NO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NOT SAND! Sorry, I'm trying to save you a big headache. Instead of sand, find a piece of corkboard (less than 5$ at any Walmart or supply store) and literally throw it in a blender. You can adjust the fineness of it to your exact liking and it paints very well. Also, one 12inch x 12inch x 1 inch slab can base an entire 3,000 point armies worth of Marines. This is personal experience talking...including the sand warning. I shudder thinking about those days. Lord Melvin
Hmmmm. I didn't think of that. I have an Assault Squad that I based with sand and painted over, and the consistency is nice. But I'll certainly give a shot at corkboard.
