L30n1d4s
What are your all's thoughts on multiple Storm Ravens? Anyone used them effectively? I have been thinking of a list like below: HQ (280) *Coteaz *GK Librarian w/ Halberd + Shroud, Summon, MoT, Quicksilver, Warp Rift EL (710) *10 Paladins w/ 4 PC (master-crafted), BHB, Warding Stave, 3 MC NFWs TR (600) *6 DCA, 1 Mystic *6 DCA *5 Acolytes, 3 Meltas, Razorback with Psybolts, Searchlight *5 Acolytes, 3 Meltas, Razorback with Psybolts, Searchlight *6 Psykers, Acolyte, Rhino *6 Psykers, Acolyte, Rhino FA (410) *SR Gunship w/ MM, LC *SR Gunship w/ MM, LC The idea is that the DCA + Libby ride in the Storm Ravens, which move Flat Out together (within 6" of each other) to get the 4+ cover save, the Libby casts shrouding to bring that up to a 3+ cover save.... since SRs have PotMS, they can still shoot either MM or Lascannon even after going flat out..... turn 2 or 3, the Libby summons Coteaz + Paladins near him (Mystic prevents scattering), who unload 16 MCed Psycannon shots on the enemy. DCA can counter-charge where necessary to back up the Paladins. Libby can also use his Psychic Hood to stop enemy powers and also buff the DCAs or Paladins with Quicksilver, MoT, etc. Coteaz gives me DS denial, plus re-roll to seize initiative, Stubborn to Paladins, an extra Hammerhand, and Sanctuary/Dark Excom. The melta Acolytes and their Razorbacks move to mid field, sieze objectives, suppress enemy transports with Psybolt Hvy Bolters, and prep to engage tanks with meltas if necessary. The Psyker Rhinos stay in the backfield (hopefully out of Psychic Hood range), hold objectives, and use their 36" range S8 AP 1 Large Blasts to target enemy heavy infantry/light vehicles in the open (the extra Acolyte is there in case the Psykers PotW and wipe themselves out... at least I still have a scoring unit and don't give the enemy an automatic KP). Hydras are a big threat to this list, since they ignore the cover save for the Storm Ravens that this list is so dependent on, and also Eldar, since they can negate many of the Psychic powers that the list relies on for cohesion (i.e. all the Libbys powers, Coteaz's powers, Fortitude, the Psykers shooting attack, etc.). If the Libby can get off Shrouding, though, it should be pretty hard to bring down the Ravens.... Lances and Melta weapons have no bonus against them and even LCs only get a penetrating hit on (2/3)to hit *(1/2)to pen*(1/3)cover save fails=1/9th of the time. So, any thoghts on this idea, or of simply using Storm Ravens in general? Anyone know a different, better way to use multiple Ravens with Grey Knights? Red Lost Soldier
I think for multiple SR's, Coteaz is the way to go. So good start there. Reason being that Coteaz can put cheap, scoring, deadly units inside, where as GK must spend about 200pt minimum to get a good unit in there. I would add a few Crusaders in there, one round of bolter fire can ruin DCA. I run a 5/3 split between DCA and Crusaders respectively, 120pt bargain. The issue with SR's in general is that you need a plan for when you go second. Most opponents can remove 2 AV12 in the one turn, particularly when they are almost impossible to cover as a SR can be. If you deploy them and they get shot first turn, your whole battle plan is in tatters. DCA on foot are dead, and summoning is grounded. The way around this is twofold, target saturation and reserves. The former is problematic when you bring a paladin deathstar that sucks up all those points. I usually use dakka dreads (another AV12 target the enemy must deal with), and a LR (usually also with a DCA unit inside, another threat). The latter usually involves bringing a character with communion in case you have to reserve your SR. I would drop the paladins and librarian for a communion character, and some more numerous yet less expensive units. Archon_77
I'll let you know, I'm about to start running two myself as I think they adequately shore up major weaknesses GK have, that being long range, anti armor, and mobility (for those of us that dont razorspam or particularly enjoy deepstriking everything to mixed results.). The Holy Heretic
I don't get your melta acolytes in razorbacks, as they can't fire from the vehicle. Why not use chimeras instead? Also I prefer Coteaz hanging with a shooty retinue - and I do believe a pallie deathstar can take care of itself ^_^ Besides that I generally like the look of your army, its got a wide range of models and mix of dispensable cannonfodder and super elite that I like Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243677-mulitiple-storm-ravens-with-gks/#findComment-2948520 Share on other sites
