Flesh Tearers Sanguinary Guard and Vanguard Vets

After months of inactivity due to my PhD, I finally found the time tonight to finish my Sanguinary Squad and put together the first two of my Vanguard Veterans. Some bits like shoulderpads, shields etc are not yet attached on the models to allow an easier painting. As for the Jumppacks, they will all have the Mark II jumppacks from FW.

I hope you will like them and I will be pleased to get your feedback.

Veteran 2

This guy waits his PF to be attached (the GS work was still drying out and I did not want to mess it)

I thought so, too. The first guy needs to have more of his right forearm removed, I think. Same with the second model, too. Not much though - maybe a mil or half a mil, I'd say.

I like the sergeant - nice use of most of the GD MkIII Boarding marine. Did you save much of what you had to remove?

Also - are those self cast shoulder pads? Although they might be a little deep, imho, they look quite good.

I think you may need to add some greenstuff to smoothen out the transition from power fist to arm on the first on. it just looks a bit weird having a huge fist and then suddenly a small arm.

Apart from that I think they're great

For the powerfist arm on the first guy, I'd probably recommend cutting the arm up to the elbow and putting the powerfist on there. The second one's arm is a bit too long as well. As for the rest of them, decent conversions and nice painting so far.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. The arms on the first two look oddly long indeed. I realized that after taking the pictures of the models, so now they are hacked 'n' slashed and ready to go.

I also wanted to add that the models are stil WIP, so there are still some power cables to be added to the LC and PF's as well as a bit of tidying up of the GS at the kneeling Marine.

The shoulderpads are self cast as Olisredan noticed and yes, I have saved quite a lot of pieces from the Boarding Marine. In fact from all 4 of them ;) ;)

I hope that I will be able to update my post with newer pictures of the first two models tonight as well as a WIP 3rd VV whose Flesh has been Torn a bit more than usual ;).

P.S.: As for the painting of the Sergeant, it is still WIP and the kudos goes to this guy here: http://guerillaartstudio.com/

An update. The first two Veteran Vanguards reworked (shortened arms and powerfist) and a third one with extensive bionics. The third one (in the centre) needs quite a lot of work still. Mostly cabling and a separate power source/vials.

I hope you like them:

These marines are looking very nice. The arms look a better length now. That bionic marine looks excellent but I would change the sword to a chainsword or powersword. Are the 'bionics' part from the Catachan special character? (his name escapes me).

Thanks for the comments mate. I think that I am bit afraid to mess with the knife as it is, although the chainsword idea tempts me a lot. I will review my decision when the conversion is finished (there is a lot of work still to be done on this fella). And yes, the parts are from the IG character Iron Hand Straken. When I saw the model, I knew I had to find a way to use him in my army. I kind of feel sorry for chopping him in pieces, but I hope that the conversion's final result will make his ghost happy enough to forgive me

In your first post, "Grunt" #3 has a useless boltgun. It shoots straight up in his axe. :P Other then that, looks kinda cool.

Nope :D, none has anything more than what he needs :) I was really careful on that department.

I dont think you get what I mean. If you look at this guys polearm, and the bolter part of it, were are the bullet supposed to go? If is is supposed to look like he shoots trough the very top of the polearm you need to get rid of the small muzzle or whatever it is called on the bolter-part. 'Cause right now it just looks wrong, IMO.

Your fellas have quite a bit of character. I like how you managed to fit even MORE skulls than GW (it helps your guys roll better, right?) on that Fist. Your Standard Bearer is coming along nicely, I think, especially. Can't wait to see these guys painted. I know you've already done quite a few conversions, but I agree with popkhorne. Drop the forearms altogether, and I think it'll help with your transitions.

Now, I see what you meant. In fact, the part of the gun you refer to is supposed to be a targeting device and not a gun barrel. I suppose that the targeting device there is also not particularly conveniently placed, but well... <_<

Ah, then I get it B) It just looked strange to me.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. The hands of the FW Marines looks indeed out of proportion with the PF attached. I think that in the second set of pictures the problem is corrected however. What do you think?

As for the skulls, wait until you see my revamped Termies

Thats some really nice sculpting, i particularly like the sanguinary guard sargeant with the jump pack and the sanguinary priest, his pose is really good! I think you fixed the arm issue on the marine above. I love that you are using a lot of forgeworld for your conversions. I know some people dont dig FW, which is fair enough but personally, i can't get enough of it. I'll be watching this one i think, your stuff is really interesting.

Keep it up.
