Piece missing. Need a replacement

So here I am on a nice Sunday afternoon painting my Njal for the Winters advance when I notice this weird little thing on his shoulder. On closer inspection its the legs where his cyber bird sits.

Somehow my guy didnt come with one... :D

I got this model back when the dex came out and havent opened him until today, and I've already started painting him so there is no way I could get a refund.

What should I do? Is there any easy replacement? Would GW help me at all? Or do I have to go buy a whole new model?

My uncle had a similar problem, what he did was phoned or emailed gw or the nearest store and said the model didnt come with the piece, could they send him it they then not only sent him the piece but a whole model

Called GW up today, they were able to help me out. Actually going to send me the resin bird sometime next week. So no harm done.

Although one thing that irked me was he said "No problem man, just dont make this a habit..."

What's that supposed to mean? Like it's my fault you guys sell incomplete models? :)

Whatever. Im getting the piece so Im happy overall.

I have a feeling you'll be getting the whole model as they'd just have to throw away the rest. This is also likely why he said don't make a habit out of it, because undoubtedly there are some unscrupulous sods who have claimed for stuff that's been fine. Just so happens that GW's customer care is quite nice.

i think he ment painting the model already ;)

Didnt mention the already partially painted lol

Sadly, I could see people doing that. A whole new model would be fine by me I suppose. Now to figure out what to do with this one.

Games Workshop has a pretty good customer service from my experience. Give them a call, and tell them your missing the piece, and they prolly will send you the entire same model again without you needing to send the original back.

I called them up about Ulrik the Slayer and how his skull mask was slightly distorted. I was ready to send the model back and all, but they just sent me a whole new one, free of charge. Good service in that area, I say.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I would like to add my $0.02 about GW's customer support/return policy.

Back in 7th Ed WFB, my buddy was saying how his VC deathstar was UNBEATABLE, and as a DE player I kindly pointed out to him that the "shadestar" was a much bigger abuse of the deathstar tactic. He did not agree at all... so to show him how wrong he was; I ordered 5 boxes of the Manflayers to build my "shadestar". When my order came in, I opened all 5 boxes in store, and discovered that I was missing the musician from each and every box of Manflayers. I mentioned this to the Manager, and we both took a closer look at the contents of each box. I was indeed missing all 5 musicains, but the boxes contained 10 Manflayers each, so no big deal. (Shades can't purchase the muso upgrade, because they are skirmisers.)

I then packed up my new purchase and went home to begin construction of my TOTAL D-BAG list. (the shadestar should NEVER be used, not even in competitive play!!!) That pesky thing called life got in the way of me going back to my local GW for 2-3 weeks, but when I walked in, my manager handed me 5 boxes of Manflayers. Confused, I told him that I had already recieved my order. His reply was that he had called GW customer support and informed them that I had not recieved the correct models in my purchase, and if they could send him the missing musicains please. GW did, but also included the rest of the 10 man unit!

The point of that story is how good GW is with its customer support, but it also shows how they can get totally hosed by dishonest people. I also can't really understand why they figured if I have 50 shades already, let's send him 50 more!!! (and that Boys and Girls is how come I have 100 shades!!!)

Long story short, if you have a GW product that is damaged or missing parts, don't hesitate to call and let them know about it. They will fix whatever issuse you have going on.

It's because they got rid of their comprehensive bits store, they can't sell the bits on so rather than opening a box that then some goes to waste they send the entire product.

Yeah definitely. I also think with bigger companies, they are more likely to be wasteful and slightly inefficient because the amount of money or material they save might not seem as bad when they are already getting a lot of profits coming in.

I wouldn't be surprised if they find slightly-warped but still usable sprues during quality inspection and just throw them out in huge garbage bag and dump them out in the dumpster rather than melt down the plastic and re-use. But who knows, a curious topic, methinks

So I got my new Njal in today! ;)

They did indeed send a whole, new, resin Njal with all his parts (although slightly warped).

This is my first finecast model, is there any prep work necessary before painting, or no? Also, any ideas on how to bend his staff back would be much appreciated. ;)

Edit: So upon inspection, everything is ok. Dont really like the way the finecast feels. But one thing that just kinda grinds my gears, the bird. The one stinking piece I need is messed up! His top beak didnt mold or form or w/e. Like half a beak! GAH!

Looks like Ill have to attempt a beakjob with some GS. ^_^

As for prep work on Finecast resin, I've seen people paint straight onto it, no undercoat and it looks good. Not too sure how well it lasts though. I'd recommend giving the pieces a short soak in some soapy water to remove any releasing agent (the same thing you should really be doing with any kit, especially resin). Also, be incredibly careful when using files on finecast as the material is so soft.

The good thing about Finecast warpage is that fixing it is easy, simply submerge the pieces in warm water and bend to the right shape.

Thanks Mikal! Your tutorial on Resin has helped me in the past when I got my Mythicast T-Wolves. :P

As for the beak, Ill just attempt the repair job.

Thanks for all the help everyone! :)
