Civilisation before Old Night

Hey all, been thinking about the timeline of the entire background of the game and hit a bit of a wall.

It mainly comes down to the Eldar Empire and the civilisation before Old Night, the Eldar claim that they had their empire when humanity was still evolving from the oceans, so does this mean the civilisation before Old Night emerged when the Eldar were at the height of their power? It's curious as to why the Eldar would allow humans to settle amongst billions of worlds when the galaxy was still technically theirs.

This period has always been written as a 'Golden Age' where technology knew no bounds, even though Eldar are amazingly advance, some of the stuff described as coming before Old Night has been known to be some of the most powerful technology in exsistence, it's surprising that the Eldar would allow humanity to flourish as they did before Old Night kicked in.

On further thought could Old Night actually be when the Eldar began its rapid descent into decadance that finally gave birth to Slaanesh?

Well, based on what I have read, "Old Night" was the result of the build up to the "birth" of Slaanesh fouling up the warp so that FTL drives were unreliable. Plus, I would have to say that the Eldar's "slide" into decadence began long before the coming of "Old Night". Perhaps humanity was able to expand so much because the Eldar were turning in on themselves far more than was healthy.
