Mephiston

BloodTzar

Recommended Posts

Well as Meph made by GW is crap i am about to change him for something more appieling. Therefore i would like to know your opinions/advices.

Fisrt option is to use this body:

http://www.sciborminiatures.com/pow.php?ab...ary_body_06.jpg

and use it with bloodcrushers sword ( http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod890007a ) on regular marine hand and PL pistol from dc set. combined with some nice shoulder pads(ideas ?)

Second one is this as it is:

http://www.sciborminiatures.com/pow.php?ab...of_rome_p01.jpg

I would just cut the PF, and use PL pistol instead, so this meph would have nice angelic look. Not some sort of goth vamp as he is now >.>

Or any other ideas?

Thanks for help

To be honest I would use neither of those.

For the simple reason that they are both far too big. Scibor miniatures are slightly bigger than regular terminators and Mephiston should be a power armoured guy on a small base.

Personally I would not have a problem to let you field Mephiston on a 40mm base but there are people who do not like such things.

Here is what I did.

He's also known as Bob Marlphiston. ^^

OOOH LOVELY ONE!

what models did you use?

It's based on this model from Reaper miniatures:

It's Judas Bloodspire.

I used his legs and the cloak obviously. I modelled the legs with green stuff over the original ones.

The sword derives from a Grey Knight. Torso, head, plasma pistol and backpack are from different Blood Angels sprues.

The hair is green stuff too.

Finally the shoulder pads are from Scibor miniatures.

I know Jawaballs did a very nice Mephiston using one of the Vampire Counts special characters. He obviously looked very vampirey though so you might not want that.

Vlad von Carstein:

This miniature is definetly a matter of taste. I really like the idea of it, but the armour does not look that protective and he is a little crooked too.

I'd say use one of the scibor miniatures ones. Sure, they're super ornate and important looking, but a good colour scheme will help make it obvious it's not the emperor, and they might be a bit big, but the guys rips the legs off of soul grinders like a kid does with spiders, so I don't think it's gunna seem that weird. Probably less weird than him being so small right now.

I didn’t realize that scibor uses the termi bases, i am not sure i would be allowed into any tourney with him...

Well i was thinking about Vlad, however it seems to me as being even more emo than the original model... how about using this one? (Just the body)

With some legs i need to find for him...

OR

(But he would be very tiny)

I had enough various bits around to use a Dark Angels robed marine, a Blood Angels backpack, one of the plasma pistols from the BA Death Company sprue, and one of the large swords from the Sanguinary Guard sprue. I don't have any pictures- sorry I'm on holiday and far from my army. The conversion looks good, and he is recognizable on the table as something different from the rest of the Blood Angels. Dig around in your own bits box- you can probably build a better Mephiston than you think!

About the base size thing: I thought it was OK to go bigger on a base (small base to a medium base), but not bigger to smaller? The basic rule being not to model for advantage?

I don't think that Vlad von Carstein is a suitable model. It looks too vampiric for Blood Angels, and Jawa's conversion is too demonic even.

If you want to have something more dynamic with the looks of Meph, take Astorath and do the following:

Saw the legs off - you won't need them as Meph has "normal" powerarmour feet and legs.

Don't use arms and shoulders - Meph doesn't have that "ripped" armour here as well.

You got the body, and can simply add arms with Plasmapistol/powersword, sculpt a hood if you wish and add a backpack.

Maybe add a cloak and some cloth around his legs with some GS.

Slap some blood-drops on there and BA shoulderpads and you're ready to go!

Gets very close to the pic in the codex without much sculpting work and looks very suitable.

  • 11 months later...

I'm using the Emperor's Champion.

Nice sword, great, extremely arrogant pose.

I plan to put a glow effect on his balled left fist and on the base beneath it.

Just trying to source a plasma pistol with a grip instead of a hand to mount on his waist.

(there's one in the IG CCS box, I think)
