Soooo,

Long time reader/ lurker and old poster... back again. I have had my own blog for a few years now and so I have not been posting much of anything but I thought as I was back to actually painting power armour that I would post what I have been up to and see what you guys think...

I have been playing with colour schemes for plague marines for a little while and this is the rough colour scheme that I have decided on... (only the leg is important as I tried three colour schemes on one model.

The idea is to start with gretchin green, wash with devlin mud, go back to gretchin and highlight up another three to four levels.

I was inspired by my mate Adam's streak painting of his plague marines but wanted to go with my own flavour so to speak. Here it is from several angles.

What do you guys think? Opinions? I don't like the knee pads and I think the gloves need another layer of highlight.

And obviously the base needs doing.

Really nice choice of colours there mate! I'm a big fan of the contrast between the chalky armour and the colouring on the gloves and packs.

The only thing I'd be worried about now is any flesh you may come to paint, have you a colour in mind?

Incidentally, I love that oldschool mini - it'd look stunning next to a unit of FW Death Guard! :tu:

Thanks man,

I am planning to paint the skin tones in the army grey with a blue tingle. Once again bright and candy like high lights.

Cheers... Lots of the models in the army are really old (I am not a huge fan of the current plague marines but I have mixed in a number of the FW marines as they match perfectly). I also use the FW terminators.

Sooooo I am back with an update.... Have built, washed and panel painted 4 squads of plague marines:

My GUO... As you can see I have replaced his head with a single eyeball and have gone with a nod to the old GUO model by inserting a large maw into his copious gut...

Transport wise the army has four rhinos. I have been on a kick to use old gear lately. I am building two new rhinos out of my closet stock using chaos forgeworld gear. I have several boxes of old GW tank bitz. I dug and dug and using a chessex dice box and the engine off the back of a land raider I built this: (The engine came from the left over bitz when I made my Storm Raven conversion)

Sooo... I didn't like the look of the Great Unclean One as he was so I added toes on one foot and a tongue (and I touched up a few mold problems). After I finished sculpting him I let him dry overnight and base coated him using Deneb Stone. Thinking of combo washing him before detail painting him up.

That's an awesome old-school-looking Great Unclean One you've got there, man! Great work! I reckon the big eye ball's going to be a difficult paint job, so take your time with that.

Also I really like your Death Guard color scheme. And I agree with LeeMXT, the contrast of the brown gloves and the armor works fine. Are you planning to add some rust effects to all the metal bits?

Cheers, JT

Cheers guys! Yeah I like the big guy and I am looking forward to getting stuck into painting him properly soon.

As far as rust effects go I plan on putting orange splotches onto the metal work and washing those with a red/brown combo wash. After that I am thinking of highlighting the edges of the gun (the orange and metallic bits) with whatever silver exists these days. Whatever the case I need to experiment with this before I get truly stuck into this part of the process...

In other news...

I have finished building the tanks to make my army fully (just about) mechanized. I sprayed them black and I have finished base coating the tanks so that they are just about ready for washing. After that it will be back to panel painting and 3 to 4 layers of streaks…

More chaos extra armour:

Composite Tank:

I actually made this tank out of the side tracks of an old rhino, a chessex dice box, and assorted other gubbins from my bitz box. Oh and the vent/ engine from a current Land Raider.
