jimbothemagnificent
Being a Scot, and having too much free time, I've started on a new chapter. The basic idea is a force that uses the space wolves codex but has it's own (scottish) background and heraldry. I have one squad finished, lightly converted, and I've made a start on another squad of termies, they are all robed and heavily converted AoBR models. I saw another scottish chapter about a year ago on a forum, but I can't remember where. Has anyone got/seen an army similar to this? I could use some inspiration. Any ideas and input is welcome! Oh, and just so you know, I've discovered that painting tartan on such a small scale is every bit as hard as you think. Yeesh, what have I got myself into... [edit] photos added. None of these are finished yet. Hence the blutack. Note the hip flask, 4+ invunerable sv? http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150081.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150077.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150074.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150093.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/22122011310.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243880-scottish-marines/ Share on other sites

They don't happen to have a blood feud with a certain monocle wearing, tea drinking and crumpet eating chapter do they? TennisBall
Are you painting the armour, giving them kilts or giving them rolled up blankets/plaids? No offence meant if you've done it but the tartan loincloths on the dreads that the others have used look like tea towels or tartan napkins. One thing I thought of when the Blood Angels Death Company set came out was that all those bits which had the red cross on them could easily be painted to show the St Andrew's cross. As the OP asked for suggestions, hard because we haven't seen the clan, but anyway... The Space Wolves use different symbols to represent their companies, you could use the old plant badges of the clans to do the same or something similar. 1st company might have a thistle, second might have a claymore, third the Loch Ness Monster or whatever. Perhaps your apothecaries might have vials on them that look suspiciously like whisky bottles, you get the idea. jimbothemagnificent
It's good to see that I'm not the only one trying this. Thanks for the inspiration guys! Tennisball, love your ideas, Whisky toting apothacaries will definately be include. I haven't yet figured out how to post pics in a thread, so I put all the pics in my gallery. The quality seems to have been ruined when I uploaded them, is that normal? Legionus_Iolair
Evening There were loads of threads about Jockanese marines a while ago. Here's my thread from 2008 ~ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...2&hl=iolair Before you ask, nothing has changed in the status. They're now back in the shed and no closer to being completed :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243880-scottish-marines/#findComment-2949708 Share on other sites
OhKillerRabbit
Always good to see Scot Marines, being scottish myself. Also, that Ravenborn army is all sorts of awesome, not just because of the painting or the modeling work, but because I happen to be Scottish and named Raven too. What are the odds? jimbothemagnificent
Some more pics. I have 3 tactical squads, 2 scout squads, an assault squad, 2 termie squads, a veterans squad, a chaplain, a commander, a rhino, and a whirlwind all under construction. Nothing is finished yet. So bear with me, it's taking a while. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150081.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150082.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150083.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150085.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150079.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/P2150080.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/22122011323.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243880-scottish-marines/#findComment-2994341 Share on other sites
jimbothemagnificent
The next squad is very nearly ready for paint, just need to glue on the shoulder armour, and the termies are finally painted! http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/120820121388.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/120820121390.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/120820121417.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/100820121378.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/100820121372-1.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/100820121380.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w496/jimbothemagnificent/The%20Damn%20Few/100820121377.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/243880-scottish-marines/#findComment-3147174 Share on other sites
Biohazard
Nice idea, there was the Sons of Dagda chapter running a similar theme. If you build some scouts you should look at a way to incorporate a Skean Dhu into their boots. :) Keep up the work good mate. NemFX
these are a slice of home for me. (the scouts should have big wooly sweaters) maybe in the fluff they could have fought against their homeworlds equivalent of the loch ness monster? "Though the fighting was hard, and though they did snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, of the battle there were few images. Though the reports all described the creature with detail, actual picts of the aquatic monster were grainy and underexposed, leaving many to question if it existed at all.." jimbothemagnificent
Cheers guys, love your ideas. I've been thinking about skean dhus, i'll try and make up a mould soon. Big wooly sweaters would be excellent, my scouts are a bit generic right now, I wonder if I could sculpt Arran sweater patterns small enough. It's either that or burberry caps and troosers tucked into fitbaw socks... I'd like to make Nessie a squad insignia, maybe a simplified arches and head, or go nuts and see if I can make a chinese dragon stylee Nessie. 'And yay though the beast was wroth; writhing and biting with teeth of silver, the few prevailed. With shifting shapes and blurred movements the sea deamon sought tovex the warriors, but to no avail, as the mighty band stood firm, unphased by the monster's fantastical illusions. The captain took to the fore, and with a ferocious cry of "wha's like us? Damn few, and thier aw deid!", strode forwards and gubbed it o'er the heid wi his chib'. @Nighthaunter lol! Oooh, I'm shaking in my little green space booties! What you gonna do? Build a wall to keep the savages out and not accept our Paper money? CyderPirate
I'm loving this. Just too much awesome. Spot on choice with the SW, they've got the right heads for the look. The heads from chaos marauder horsemen would be good, too. The termies are so coool, so much detail - thistles on one shoulder and a St. Andrew's Crux. Really cool Go Abedeen! I'm loving this. Biohazard
Great idea with the Burberry, you need to give them some bottles of Buckfast to use as hand grenades. :) Love the quote about the paper money getting gubbed ower the heid. :P Heres to us, wha's like us? jimbothemagnificent
@ CyderPirate I thought the same, I'm sorely tempted to decapitate my marauders! @Biohazard I'm planning a 'f*ckbast' squad. jimbothemagnificent
Ooft, modeling a piper is a big ask!
