Ah-a-nothepsis
Hi, this was a really fun game against my good friend and weekly opponent (we are practicing for a big tournament in Jan). I will be typing this from memory, so if things are weird just ask a question and I am sure I can describe what happened better after I take time to think about it. :D Mission: KP's Deployment: Dawn of War Terrain: Simple (for time constraints) with a Ruin in each table quarter and a huge huge in the center. Armies: (from what I remember) Tyrant with Devourers/big bug blaster gun 3 tyrant guard 10 gaunts with devourers (x2) 5 Genestealers (x3) 15 Hormagaunts 3 Raveners (x2) 2 Zoes in pod (x2) Doom of M in pod vs. Ahriman 9 Thousand Sons w/ Warptime, Rhino (x3) 9 Thousand Sons w/ Bolt of Change Predator w/ H.B.'s, Havoc Launcher 2 Obliterators (x2) Deployment and 1st turn- I get first turn and deploy my 1 Tsons unit without a transport right into the middle Ruin. Everything else will walk on, 1 unit of Obliterators will deep strike. My friend deploys the tyrant flanked by 2 units of shooty devourer gaunt broods. He will be outflanking all the genestealers and a unit of Hormagaunts via the Tyrant's rules. He doesn't steal the initiative, so I walk on everything with a hard center and nothing on the flanks. Oblits fail to see the tyrant, predator fails to see the gaunts. Thousand Sons on the objective walk backwards toward the rest of my forces, then run for a total of 10" movement. pretty good. My friend moves all his Raveners on in the center of the board and runs them. Hive tyrant advances while the gaunts lurk about in one of his table quarters. Tyrant fails to see anything to shoot. Turn 2- Obliterators arrive via Ahriman's personal icon without scattering and lascannon 1 ravener to death. Thousand Sons stay in vehicles to avoid the Doom's special ability. Obliterators from earlier plasma cannon a few gaunts. Predator kills 5 more gaunts in cover (lucky, but awesome!). Friend gets all reserves in minus 1 squad of genestealers. Hormagaunts and genestealers enter play on my left side, and 1 unit of stealers on my right. Doom scatters into a terrible spot away from my stuff and far on the right flank. 2 pods with Zoe's drop in front of Ahriman's Rhino and torch it. Ahriman disembarks and his unit suffers more fire from the hive tyrant. A unit of raveners charge the squad I deployed at the start of the game, and the Thousand Sons strike first. The sorcerer instant-kills a ravener while the squad scores 3 wounds. They all stay in combat. Turn 3- First things first: Ahriman casts Gift of Chaos on the closest Zoanthrope and manages to kill it after scoring a 1, 4, 5 on the dice rolls under Shadow in the Warp!! So I get a little cocky and try again on the Ravener nearby. It goes off again and the ravener dies, freeing an entire friendly squad from close combat. Ahriman charges a unit of zoanthropes while the Obliterators instant kill the Doom of M. nearby with twin-linked melta guns. The predator in the back kills some genestealers while another Thousand Sons squad cleans up the rest of the stealers on the right flank. 2 squads and Ahriman charge the Zoanthropes and their pods, killing them all in close combat with a mix of Force Weapons and basic attacks. His turn, he charges the Tyrant against a rhino while the tyrant guard break off to kill another rhino. More of his gene stealers came in on the left flank but roll poorly on fleet and fail to get into range of my left flank Thousand Sons squad, which is disembarked at this point. Some gaunts kill Ahriman and his squad from shooting while my Ravener spawn (;)) runs around and kills the Doom's mycetic spore, since it was the closest model and he had to chase it anyways. Turn 4- Thousand Sons rapid fire and charge the genestealers on the left flank, predator shoots the rest of the raveners. In his turn, hormagaunts approach the Thousand Sons on the left but roll bad in difficult terrain so can't charge. Tyrant kills the predator in close combat, gaunts kill my ravener spawn, raveners charge some Obliterators and kill them. Turn 5- Thousand Sons on left flank rapid fire into the guants and charge, breaking the unit and running them down since they were about 20"~ away from the only Synapse creature. He kills more rhinos in his turn and it ends. Results- Thousand Sons win, I think it was 12 KPs to 7 or something like that. I'll ask him and repost.
