Bran Redmaw

Valkyrion

Recommended Posts

He's a pretty standard Wolf Lord at first but over the course of the game he has an increasing likelihood of turning into a werewolf.

His lycanthrope stats give even mephiston a run for his money, including eternal warrior as a nice bonus. However Bran doesn't have eternal warrior normaly so he could go down bwfore the changekicks off if you are unlucky.

No, but if you look on page 109 the Space Wolves are listed as second founding...

The author should be shot

Well the Author is a woman.

:P

I'm going to have to obtain the Space Wolves relevant info somehow. I'm not going to pay for so much useless information.

He is super cool.

He is kick ass in combat. The relic blade can go and pleasure someone oraly because his axe is kick ass. However as the game procedes he will turn into a wolf and he will not be mutch of a CC powerhouse vs the same targets. He will get S and T 6, but no power weapon attack and no rending (?). While this is worse vs high armour things his S6 is better vs mechs. At this point he has feel no pain but no armour save. On the pluss side, he has fleet in that shape.

He has saga of the hunter and he can hunt with a pack of fenrisian wolves (!)

Also, one of the grey hunters get the rules for the SW scouts. So we can talk about having 2 kick as outflanking units. Grab some scouts and some long fangs and he will have to come to you while you circle around him.

A bit over 200 points, so not - that - bad. All he needs now are two good models.

What has that have to do with anything? Please read the rules:

If one is none too fond of a Wolf Lord who runs with the wolves, then he should choose another than Bran Redmaw, or so I would think. There's another 11 of them. ;)

bran wasn't always a "werewolf" wolf lord. it's only the current edition that turned him into such a thing. I for one am a bran redmaw player that doesn't like this new fluff at all...

If you read the relevant text it explains that all current 1st founding chapters are in effect 2nd because they were divided. Don't forget this book is written as a report into the Mymeara conflict from the Inquisition's viewpoint and not the Space Wolves view of themselves as we all know how highly regarded the Wolves are with the inquisition ;)

I'm not sure how Bran will play out with the new rules but in a fluffy game it's something I'd like to try, it's interesting how they are now marking rules as 40k approved, or Apocalypse throughout the book and Bran's rules are listed as fine for 40k...

Yeah Bran is definitely a great character. A good mix of fluffy/gimmicky rules and stuff that actually changes your gameplay a little bit and gives you a few extra options. Being able to outflank with Fenrisian Wolves is huge and a Grey Hunter squad with the Wolf Scout ability is certainly a scary thought.

Know how you feel I had built my great company around one of the previously undefined wolf lords only to have him be filled out in the current codex. So i just changed to wolf lord of my own creation with the same symbol as the symbols are repeatedly used by different lords.

Perhaps he wasn't specified as a werewolf, but as I recall the 3rd edition codex did say that the sign of the Blood Hunter was traditionally associated with lords bearing the mark of the wulfen. From there the ´new fluff´ isn´t a far stretch. I´m curious now; what was the character you had in mind with Bran Redmaw?

@Skoll: I am 100%. He doesn't even have Mark of the Wulfen in his Wulfen Form, so no Rending. But he does get base 5 attack at S6 with Fleet. And that's before Furious Charge kicks in.

It is stated in his backstory that he was not the only Wolf Lord with Mark of the Wulfen.

I have written a huuuuge post with all the details you need to field Bran Redmaw but I will post it tomorrow on my blog, because today is Christmas. I will post a link here as soon as it's up. It will be like a nice late Christmas Gift! B)

quite frankly a lord somewhat similar to ragnar; a furious close combat beast, also wolf bitten. This new fluff really makes us werewolfs in space and is a path i don't want the wolves to walk. For our next codex we might get a new SC; JACOB
