Hello wolfbrothers. I saw this list at another forum and looking to see what your thoughts are in terms of its overall competitiveness:

1x Logan

1x Wolf Lord as TH/SS Terminator, Warrior Born, Belt of Russ, Wolftooth, Wolftail.,

3 Wolfguard (as Troops) with 2x TH/SS Terminator + 1x Arjac

3 Wolfguard (as Troops) with 3x TH/SS Terminator

2x Landraider + Extra Armour

1500 pts. with 10 models including the Landraiders.

Thanks!

i dont play competitive but for a 1500pt game you shouldn't take logan.he's good for 2k pt games and higher. The list over all (IMHO) doesn't make any sense.

Hey vtec407,

There's two major problems I see with the list that you've proposed.

1) Squad Size

With only 10 models on the board, even though your 3++ from the shields will keep you safe from high AP weapons, it won't do anything to protect you from the torrenting of fire that a simple blob squad of Guardsmen with lasguns can lay down with FRFSRF orders, or that of a bladestorming squad of Dire Avengers, or anything else that can land a large number of hits in the shooting phase.

The more dice you have to roll for those saves, the more likely you are to roll those critical ones, and every model lost will make a *huge* difference with so few models available to you.

The main danger in action against a canny opponent would be that your two squads can both be tarpitted with a single medium-sized squad of cheap fearless troops, leaving the entire rest of your opponents force to concentrate on taking down the land raiders at their leisure and then focussing in to annihilate your now stranded squads.

2) Lack of ranged heavy weapons

By taking such small WG squads you also deny yourself the chance to take heavy weapons such as Cyclones or Assault Cannons to punch through vehicle armour and whittle down troops. Sure the Landraiders can add a certain ammount of ranged anti-armour depending on their config, but it's coming from only 2 sources, and it will only take a single stunned or shaken result each on your Land Raiders to render all your long range firepower ineffective for a turn.

Couple of suggestions that might help:

Whilst I've got much love for my Wolf Guard Terminators, and like to use them when I can, unfortunately the simple fact is that our TH/SS Terminators are so over-priced that there's far more competitive terminator builds out there rather than trying to outfit an entire squad this way.

Many people use a single Storm Shield on an otherwise bare WG termie in WG TDA squads purely to take those AP1&2 hits from plasma guns, lascannons etc. - whilst equipping the rest of the squad with the damaging weapons i.e combi-melta & plasma, thunder hammer, wolf claws etc.

If you're determined to run Loganwing at 1500 then perhaps drop podding in your termies would be something you'd like to look in to? By saving yourself the >500pts from the Land Raiders you can get a two additional squads of Wolf Guard, kitted out with heavy weapons and a broader range of equipment and with a little juggling you should easily be able to afford the points for the necessary pods. It has the advantage of getting your Wolf Guard squads right up in your opponents face from the get go, and potentially doubles your current model count.

Just my 2c ^_^
