Whats your favorite point value?

From 500pts to bring-what-you-have apocalypse, whats your favorite point values for your wolfy force and why?

Personally I love the 1k-1500pt range, because theres enough to get yourself a good sized force without forcing people tot ake hammer units or filling up every inch of a board. I really like the flexability of 1k fights, and how i forces most people to try to make a balanced list because they cant quite overpower anyone with off-the-wall tactics or gimmicks.

I think wolves are also quite strong at these point values because of our cheaper per-body prices than most armies and the flexability of most of our units.

I like 2,000 points. I don't get to play often at all anymore, so when I do get to play I want to use as many of the available units that I have as possible. It's easy to tell the Wolf Scouts, or the Dreadnought that they're going to have sit one out if you know you're going to play again in a couple days, and they can join the fight then, while the Wolf Guard and the Lone Wolf take a rest, but when you only play a couple times a year you don't want to leave anybody out of the battle.

I played a 1,500 point game about a month ago, because that's what the random fellow at the LGS had with him, and I'd say that would be the bare minimum that I'd be comfortable with. I wouldn't want to go any less than that, as I'd be just scratching the surface with what I own, and what I'd want to play with.

Valerian

1.5K for me.

The game is longer at higher points level, which can be bad if someone is getting pwned from the get go. And makes it hard to play more than a few games in a row.

It also leads to the newer Dexes really putting the smack down on the older ones, as things are inevitably cheaper and/or more powa!!ful the closer the release date is to the present.

Less than 1.5 and the dice affect the game a lot more.

If I were making a date of it, then I suppose even up to 2K is okay, assuming that C:GK wasn't playing C:Tau, etc. But I'd only want to play one game that afternoon.

Also, as Grey Mage noted, some Dexes get more powerful the smaller the game, such as Wolves. But also Tau do, as that 6x4' table gets pretty big when playing at 1K, and it can be horrid crossing the table against them. And Tau have long arms, so to speak, so not much fun to play against.

Between 1500 and 1750. After that games get too long and get stressful instead of enjoyable. At tournaments I found 1750 to be the absolute maximum because I can't play 3 games of 2000 points in a row and enjoy the games. First one is good, second one alright but I'd rather not play the third game. And coming back the next day for some more is just not enjoyable any more.

I also don't enjoy being able to take everything you want and deck out stuff with toys to the max. It is much better when you have to consciously decide what you're going to take and streamline your list as best as you can, evaluating the worth of every last piece of equipment you get, trying to strike the perfect balance between numbers and giving everything enough equipment to perform well. It adds a whole extra layer of strategy to the game that is lost when you raise the points limit too much.

1500pts.

Big enough to put some nice stuff on the table, not big enough to put ALL the nice stuff on! Means you have to make some tough choices!

Small enough to get a game finished in a small session, or two games in a long session.

If things are getting too one-sided, the game finishes quickly, and you can get another in. You're not stuck in a long, drawn out game where you can see what's coming from far off.

Although I do like 500 and 750 as mini-games.

Hail Brothers,

merry christmas to all of you!

In the more regular games round the year against my IG opponent we chose 2k as a good base.

However my Company is designed and built for the epic Apocalypse battles my group organizes three to four times a year. Overall point levels vary, yet my force is 18k strong. I love the feeling of my army and the assembled force just looks ace on the table.

I can field almost every unit from our codex and am of the opinion that I don't need to add superheavies or the like, because of how strong our codex troops are.

That's what I like best, nothing like 12+ Lone Wolves hitting the enemy lines or a combined line assault of wolves between Logan and Ragnar to crush the enemies of Mankind, it's LEGEN...-wait for it-..DARY ;) !

I don't like playing below 1500, so between that and 2000 is the sweet spot for me.

Although I do love Apocalypse... as Bulweih said, there's nothing like fielding 12+ Lone Wolves, especially in TDA, and having them single-handedly take down every superheavy and titan on the board. ;)

1500. Anything above that and a lot of my opponents take multiple hard to kill units and more or less, play KP denial. While ineffective at winning in 2/3 of all games, its still annoying nonetheless. Not to mention there is nothing to learn when facing those types of lists, unless you are unfamiliar with the concept of concentrated fire...
