Ulv
second contradiction: a wulfen makes no difference between friends or foe, unless it's an authority such as a wolf priest (and even then it's unsure). this gets supported by wolf's honour, prospero burns, battle of the fang (in a way), Yet a wolfguard that turned into a wulfen in thunder of fenris clearly makes a difference between his pack brothers and the enemy thoughts? third contradiction: a wulfen is lacking intelligence save for the fierce cunning of a predator. this is supported by wolfs honour and the eye of terror codex (which mentions them unable to use their former boltpistols and chainswords.) yet the same thunder from fenris has a wulfen set traps etc for his packbrothers. could you give some more informations about the traps skarvald? and what wulfen stadium was the wolf guard in? thoughts? This is explained in Thunder From Fenris. Hagni (Wulfen) leads the Thunderwolves to the Nurgle Daemon. Then when he was attacked by one of his brothers, he killed him. In the story they said he is "of the wolf mind now". What I gather from this is as they change in to wulfen, they gradually become more bestial. Thus when the transformation is complete he becomes wild. Wolfsbane
Again the sources that have been cited for this discussion are those of an author, they shall imagine and describe situations in their own voice and from their own mind. It is what we do in our spare time thinking about the Great Chapter we represent on the battlefield. There is room for the imagination. There is room for some certainties. Wulfen is a curse, but it is not a finality. My personal views, one may change, but return. Each transformation makes it harder to return. Once the inner wolf has broken free of his cage there is no chance of returning to the world of humanity. The wulfen that is freed has a personality, all wolves, dogs, and other canine animals still have a personality. Some have the capacity to have simple thoughts (go look at some videos of border collies, they are insanely intelligent dogs), some are on their basic instinct, some are loyal, some are try to become the alpha. Just my two cents on the subject. Russ Brother 92
I've just got it - Legends of The SMs book - very good story I'm intending on creating a diorama out of part of the story  - it specifically states that he (Hrothgar) is permanently in the Wulfen State (which is described as much much more bestial at first yet when he's found only his features remain animalistic) "The figure... indeed wore the power armour of an Astartes, but split apart and ruined as if rent from within." to quote pg 236 "As for Hrothgar, well, he was interred... in a cell hollowed out from the rock of the Fang's very heart where... none can hope to escape." Sanguinius Chosen Wing
I always thought it was sort of like being a werewolf. Once you turn your always a "werewolf" but you can return to your space wolf with some yellowish eyes maybe lupine features but your not a constant slavering beast. Overtime you might not be able to transform back but you aren't instantly licking windows crazy attacking everyone. I like to think there is a distinction between "curse of the wulfen" and being a "wulfen". Sometimes traumatic or particularly weak individuals instantly become a wulfen but those just with the curse can continue moving about relatively sane able to differentiate between friend and foe, just watched by their peers by their excessive need to pee on people lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244223-understanding-the-curse-of-the-wulfen/page/2/#findComment-3007659 Share on other sites
