Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons Falchion

Machinator

Recommended Posts

First off, happy holiday to everyone! I hope Santa Claws was generous with all his toys of war and that everyone is now itching to start a fight B)

So I've started a new commission , which should be a fun one. I'll be making a pre-Heresy Falchion super-heavy for the Thousand Sons space marines. As you can see there's still quite a bit of work to do but it's off to a good start. As some of you who have followed me on other sites know I like to do more than just glue Space Marine bits onto a Baneblade kit (or a Shadowsword in this case) and call it a Fellblade. In fact I've designed and cast a number of pieces that can be used on these tanks to create something unique of the the standard IG Baneblade hull.

Using a couple of drawing from the 80's as inspiration I completely redid the main chassis weapon mount into more of a pentagon shape that sits a little lower in the hull. Also instead of using the Shadowsword main cannon I took some pieces from the Pegasus Powerplant kit to come up with something more unique. I plan to make the barrel a little longer and thinner but an still pondering what end to use on it. The original art work has a dragon's head at the end of the volcano cannon but I don't think that look matches the rest of the tank. Right now I'm thinking of using a tip simlar to the Sunfire Heavy Laser Cannon I created previously:

Speaking of unique componenets, I just finished work on what I'm calling the Tank Dyno. The mold wil be finished today and this model will be the first to get it. I'm fairly happy how this turned out and it should be a nice addition not only to a tank but also as a terrain piece:

So there you have it. Plenty more to come :)

I'll have an eighth of Machinator, please... ;)

Joking aside, that all looks great. The Tank Dyno is an excellent generic component, the Sunfire Cannon looks like it should be off of an Imperial Navy cruiser, or something, and the Falchion looks like it's got great potential. Definitely watching this space. ;)

When it comes to mind blowing experiences, you are better than drugs. Seriously.

Very cool.

Wow, I've never been compared to crack before. Just remember kids, crack is whack. Stay with sniffing modeling glue :)

Work on the Eye of Magnus continues. I cleaned up the hull, added the top, and began filling in the details. The volcano cannon is nearly done. I ended up doing a simpler tip to the cannon as it's what the customer wanted. Also I decided to go with a round side sponson as the lascannons weren't needed (the datasheet the customer is using does not include them). They be capped off with my Light Turrets with TL heavy bolters installed. I made a targetting array for the top of the hull but I'm not sure I like it. The object was to make it look like a cyclopean eye but I'm not sure this captures it.

Also finished were the side skirts complete with archaic runes (I found some angellic script that works quite nicely). The top one says "The Eye of Magnus" and the bottom "The Thousand Sons." Once the green stuff cures I'll carve in some detail to make them look a bit older.

Your tank looks amazing. I really like the runes you made, they fit perfectly for TS.

IMO the sensor-eye-thing looks a little bit out of place. It sticks out too far. Maybe you could integrate it into the "wall" next to the cannon (hope you undestand what i mean :) )

Looking foward to see more amazing work from you :)

I agree, but I envision the lamp-thing being included in the superstructure above the cannon, rather than besides it. It's an idea that probably won't work but I thought I'd throw it out there. I like how the rest of it is coming together. :P

Me likey. Pretty clean cast there. Nice one.

I keep looking at it and wonder, what does it do?

Anything you want it to. I see it as some kind of capacitor or generator. :D

Well it's been a long few days but now it's finished! (My part any way). So here it is in all its pre-Heresy Space Marine-y goodness:

excellent conversion their brother, very nice envious of your skills. Love the Tank Dynamo - looks so crisp had you not shown the original model I would have spent ages on the Forgeworld website looking for one of those :) . I love the inscriptions you have put into the green stuff. :)

Nice looking vehicle Tom. You must keep tichytraingroup in business!

Your resin parts match the GW parts perfectly.

What is going next to the cyclopean sensor? There is a small hole there. Is is going to be some form of radar?

How goes the DA Fellblade? I'm still waiting to see what the main plasma-like weaponry will look like.

Best wishes and a Happy New Year, Phil (Brother Morgan).

very good!

..your modeling work is awesome and those dynamos are sweet!

..I like the painted model less than I expect tho..

..maybe it's just me but these large armoured surfaces def need some airbrush work..

..or you could try to add some ivory to the solid red of loyalist 1k sons..

just my 2 cents... :cuss

p.s. I read about the painting issues afterwards..now it makes more sense.. ;)
