Brave_Rifles
So I have been thinking about starting a WIP Blog for a while now to help keep me motivated and show off the models I am working on. Let me start by sharing my dilemma My current marines are painted in a Soul Drinkers color scheme. The way they are currently modeled and painted I have several issues with them. I never really like the Purple and Gold. The purple was always either too dark or too pink and was never able to get them to look the way I wanted to in my mind. The gold on the other hand looked ok on a marine but never seemed to look good on vehicle The custom doors, while unique never really came out due to cast imperfections The custom shoulder pads always seemed oddly bulky for the model I really like purity seals and books and what not which didn’t fit with the Soul Drinker fluff Here are some shots of my current Soul Drinkers Rhino Hull http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Rhino_Front.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Rhino_Side.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Rhino_Back.jpg Marines http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Serg_Front.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Melta_Front.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Assualt_Marine_Front.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/SD_Assault_Marine_Side.jpg As you can see from the photos they look much more like Hawk Lords then Soul Drinkers and I was never really able to get the purple I wanted to. So I have been thinking about it for a while now and I decided to strip them down and rebuild & repaint them. Before I go too much further I wanted share with you all some of my inspiration for this. Dice and Brush Guardians of the Covenant 1 – I really like the reds he was able to accomplish and he was nice enough to provide them 2 – I like the angel icons, purity seals, and scroll work on the vehicles From the Warp – Minotaur’s 1 – I like the bronze armor, it feels unique without losing the metallic feel of the Guardians of the Covenant 2 – It is a simple process that I can implement. This is huge for me as I am really not the best painter as you will see. Les Bursley – Other than this guys stuff is amazing I used the following two videos 1 – Without this video I would not have been able to make the wash to be used in the bronze armor.2 – Wash Recipe I still use GW washes for some things but I really like the ability to make custom washes in particular the dark shade washes that include some black in them GW Dark Angel Upgrade Sprues 1 – I like the purity seals, books, and angel icons 2 – I have always wanted to do an army with a significant contingent of robed marines. The idea So simply put I am looking to create a Grey Knight army. My thought being that this will be an Inquisitorial Strike Force that contains elements of the Knights of the Covenant, Guardians of Covenant successor chapter, as well as inquisitorial henchmen. This way I’ll have lots of modeling opportunities with Grey Knights range and maximize each models usefulness. Additionally by being an Inquisitorial Strike Force it will allow me to put on a lot of books, purity seals, and scroll work throughout my army. Test Model At this point I am hoping that this sounds interesting enough for you to want to keep following this and to get things started here are some pictures of my test model which is my counts as Coteaz Counts as Coteaz http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/Coteaz_Front.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/Coteaz_Side.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/Coteaz_Side_2.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/Coteaz_Back.jpg Let me know what you think Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244290-knights-of-the-covenant/ Share on other sites
Ch@oZ
The coteaz guy is looking pretty awesome- quite the seemless conversion. So are You planning a lot of this kind of bronze on your standard marines or are they going to be painted in stern steel with bronze for decoration? Brave_Rifles
Thanks. I am thinking that bronze armor would replace the silver normally found on Guardians of the Covenant marines. Purity seals in green like Coteaz Cloth in Red cloth Given the darkness of the scheme I will probably do details like wings in white. (Still need to do that on Coteaz) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244290-knights-of-the-covenant/#findComment-2953117 Share on other sites
Brave_Rifles
So I wanted to share what I worked on last night. The first Rhino chassis was ready to come out of the dip and get cleaned off. After thoroughly cleaning the paint off I removed the Soul Drinkers icons and started adding purity seals and what not. I have a couple more that should be ready for cleaning tonight but they will need to wait for reconstruction as my bits order has not yet arrived. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/KotC_Rhino_Front.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/KotC_Rhino_Side.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/KotC_Rhino_Side_2.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/KotC_Rhino_Back.jpg Getting everything the way I wanted it took longer than expected so I wasn't able to get much more done, however I was able to get the first basecoat on some of the warrior acolytes http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/mcconje/Knights%20of%20the%20Covenant/KotC_WA_Basecoat.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244290-knights-of-the-covenant/#findComment-2953642 Share on other sites
