Res Ipsa Loquitur
I feel the need to do something big; something huge; something... cajunga, if you will, so I'm going to do Harald Deathwolf's Great Company, because what's more Fenrisian than an army full of Thunderwolves and Wolf Packs? I'm only in the planning stage (so WIP pics will be a long time coming) but I'm going to post what I'm thinking so far and ask you grizzled old vets for some CnC since I am fairly new to the ways of the Fang. Also, it's worth noting that I'm not overly concerned about this being the deadliest, most killy army possible. I'm doing this more for fluff reasons than to create an uber army. So without further ado, this is what I have so far; Harald Deathwolf, Wolf Lord on TW (Icetooth) Canis Wolfborn (natch) Skye Greywolf*, WG Battle Leader on TW 19 Wolf Guard inc. (10 TWC) 82 Grey Hunters (inc. 42 vehicle crew) 33 Blood Claws (inc. 10 Skyclaws) 17 Long Fangs 10 Wolf Scouts 81 Fenrisian Wolves Land Raider Redeemer Land Raider Crusader 3 Predators 2 Vindicators 9 Land Speeders 6 Rhinos 3 Razorbacks Including some reinforcements from the Great Wolf's company (2 Wolf Priests, Rune Priest, Iron Priest on TW, Dreadnoughts) and weapon upgrades this comes to a mite under 7,000pts Comments? I'm a little worried that it's too big; too many bodies. I know that SW don't care about the Codex Astartes but even so, 164 marines (inc. vehicle crew) is pushing it a bit far, n'est ce pas? *Skye Greywolf is a stuntman whose name I saw on the credits for Eight-Legged Freaks and whose name I unashamedly nicked. Araith
Impressive project. On what term are you going to work on it? As regards numbers, I wouldn't worry. There are differing opinions regarding the size of great companies and the chapter as a whole, but there seems to be a general consensus that some 150 brothers including blood claws at least isn't too large for a great company. Personally I'm on the side that says it's in fact about average in size. The only suggestion I'd make on this matter is to increase the percentage of grey hunters. Compared on the one hand to wolf guards and long fangs, and on the other hand to the blood claws, there's quite few of them. I'd suggest increasing their number to about half the company, and reducing the numbers of other troops some. Res Ipsa Loquitur
Thanks for the comments. I've included a lot of Blood Claws because I'm trying to represent the company having just left Fenris after taking on a sizeable number of new recruits. As for Grey Hunters, along with the overt 50 on that list there are another 31 crewing the Land Speeders, Rhinos and Razorbacks for a total of 81. At least, I think that's right. Since all the vehicles have the higher BS I assumed they were crewed by GHs, not BCs. If I understand your question correctly, I'm probably going to try and get this done by next christmas. I'm a horrifically slow painter though so that might not happen. Araith
Then composition looks fine. A year long project. Will you be posting photos of your progress? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see this take shape. Res Ipsa Loquitur
I certainly will, so long as you aren't mean about my painting which, as well as being slow, is basic-to-middling. I've just got back from my LGS and have several boxes of goodies ready to crack open. Araith
Being mean to a brother-at-brushes? I wouldn't dare. The others would start breaking furniture over my head, as they should. eyeslikethunder
Looks good to me but how about some swiftclaws welcome to the fang- slides 10 pints of ale over Both Bran's and Ragnars Great companies are said to almost 200 hundred so the numbers look right to me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244389-building-a-great-company/#findComment-2956104 Share on other sites
Valerian
You are correct that the Grey Hunters crew the vehicles. If you want to be consistent with some of the older fluff I would include a single Wolf Priest, but would have two Rune Priests (a Master and a Skald). Otherwise looks fine to me. Best of luck, and have fun with your worthy effort.
