Dosjetka
Cheers for the swift reply RNL :D But for example in the list you proposed above (two Strike Squads and Psy-Rifle Dread), which would you choose out of the two? breng77
For that list the gm is not really needed though he helps to improve your units. The gm allows you to worry less about troops and as such opens up more options for other units. RedemptionNL
In that list I'd go with the Librarian I think: A Grand Master is more expensive, so you'd have to remove something else to make room. Especially as you usually want to give him some wargear such as his nice grenade options; his cost usually goes over 200 points when I use him in my lists. The Grand Master, especially with the grenade options, gives the squad he is attached to a good boost in melee, which is largely wasted on Strike Squads, who are mostly a shooting unit. The Grand Master also aids in reserve control, but he has to be on the board to do so, and at this points level holding units in reserve is very risky, as you're basically gambling with half your army if you hold even 1 squad in reserve. With so little units, Grand Strategy is also less useful. For instance, if you wanted to make your Dreadnought scoring, you'd have no other units to select. Scouts only gives you a 6" move (or outflanking, but see reserves) with a footslogging list, which is only situationally useful. So you're left with making them more killy with either re-rolling 1's to Wound or Counter-attack, but for the increased point cost of the Grand Master, you could also achieve more killyness differently, like with Psybolt ammo or another Hammer. The Librarian aids in protecting the few units you have with Sanctuary and The Shrouding, so you're somewhat less likely to lose due to a couple of bad dice rolls, which is always a risk with low model count armies at low point cost games. Dosjetka
breng77: After readin RNL's reply, I'll go with the Librarian, but thank you for replying  RNL: Again, I thank you for your in-depth replies, they really help me understand things that I wouldn't necessarily understand otherwise  So, now, I know for sure that the Librarian is the HQ of choice for this army. Cheers! :) Ludovic Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244443-starting-out-with-grey-knights/page/2/#findComment-2959209 Share on other sites
breng77
I don't disagree with a Libby especially in the list he posted. You'd take the GM if you wanted to run 5 man strike squads and then take other squads that you then wanted to make scoring. However, at this level you really don't get that much extra on the table, so he probably won't help all that much, given your other restrictions. Really the best HQ at 750 points is an inquisitor, due to the low points cost allowing you to purchase other units/upgrades. But out of your choices the Libby probably makes the most sense. RedemptionNL
Aye, the Grand Master is more of a force multiplier unit, and for a force multiplier to work well, you need to have a force to multiply. I don't think I've used him personally in games of less than 1500.
