Legion Of The Damned sculpt

Howdy folks, I was recently lucky enough to have been given a cast of a truescale sculpt which the sculpter wasn't happy with. After doing a bit of GS work and reposing the left leg, I got it to a stage where I was happy to start actual work on the model.

The first major work was deciding on what to turn the sculpt into. My first choice was to create a pre-psycho Captain Tycho, but after seeing the cover for the new Legion of the Damned novel, I quickly changed my mind :D

I'm rather pleased with the ribs and spinal column effect I sculpted on the torso. The other bitz were liberated from my bitz box and seemed to fit the overall feel of the model. I still need to find an appropriate head - the ones I've got don't quite seem to fit the theme. I might end up conveting one to a more skull-like visage.

Let me know what you think. Any C&C are more than welcome!

You have certainly done an amazing job and he is certainly quite awesome looking. The only thing that is a bit of a nit for me is the power maul. It's a fairly common bit that you see on Dark Apostles and in this case, it doesn't really say "Legion of the Damned" to me. That could just be me.

However, it is a brilliant model and I look forward to seeing paint on him.

Cheers,

I was considering using the DA power mace but it looked to small for the model. The bit I used (can't remember where it's from) seemed to fit the brutality of the cursed Marines better.

Thanks for the replies folks. I've done some work on the Bolter and bulked it up - by turning it into a storm bolter! Might still add a chain bayonet though as the underside of the bolter looks a little too clean. Or maybe add some chains and things................

Anyhow, added a bit more detail such as the groin plate and the dangly censor thingy. Also found a head in my bitz box which looks the business. I think it's from the Chaos Marine vehicle sprues or somehting.

I'm also adding some details to the base at the moment - a bit of barbed wire and a Guardsmans skull - but I'll get pics of them up later.

Very nice work! Great pose on him as well and the combination bolter/storm bolter gives him a real sense of weight. :tu:

Wow! Praise from the legendary Doghouse - I am honoured!

I thought that going oldschool with the combi-bolter rather than a storm bolter would look cooler.

I'm currently trying to work on the soft armour of the shoulder joint - my first couple of attempts were complete and utter ;) but I've had a couple of tips from B&C's very own Lamenter which I will try out tonight.

Oh, and try and figure out how to do the backpack too............................................

That is certainly a sweet model and. I look forward to seeing it finished. just one idea for you to mull over, if you gave a skull helmet he would make a very fine Legion Chaplain on my opinion.

Ummm........ he has got a skull-faced helmet. Not sure exactly where it's from - I think it's possibly from a Chaos vehicle sprue.

I think that head's from the normal Chaos squad sprue (I'm pretty sure I've got one, and I've never bought a Chaos vehicle).

The figure looks fantastic, by the way. Nothing really useful I can add.

EDIT: I take that back about the head - I think the normal one doesn't have the gizmo on the eye. That one may be from a vehicle sprue.

Don't suppose anyone has any tips on how to sculpt flame? I want to add some to the bottom of the right greave and maybe the right shoulderpad too.
