The Rise of Malarius!

Malarius

I started this thread in the Morbidus forum but wanted to share my creations with the rest of the community. This is my 11th mini and my first outing with this much green stuff. I think I'm gonna like this hobby. :D

Next up will be the green stuff around the left wing and adding the bottom half of that poor IG soldier. Then off to the prime station.

That's an interesting conversion you have going on. Does this guy have a name or any story behind it?

His name is Malarius. I'm currently working on a story. So far what I have is that he used to be a Death Spectre SM who is also in the Deathwatch. The squad he is in gets set up by a Death Guard sorc. so that he can use his gene-seed to splice with a new Plague created by Nurgle. The gene-seed is spliced by none other than Fabius in return for new troops. The sorcerer and his new underling go on to create the Purge chapter with the help of Mort and Nurgle. That's the gist of the story. I left a lot out.

What I was trying to capture in this mini is the Vaxhallian Genocides. Once I read about what the Purge did I was hooked. You can read it here Also, I decided to go with the Purge and the Death Spectres because of their lack of fluff. Makes it easier to make stuff up.

I figured that in order to take out that many people in a month would require a fast moving army, so I decided that the Purge would keep the Death Spectre tactics of lightning fast assaults. Plus it makes sense that Nurgle would want a fast spreading plague. I played it out that the sorcerer first encountered the Death Spectres during Abbadon's 13th Black Crusade, and that's where the sorcerer decided that a fast moving plague army would be ideal to spread pestilence throughout the galaxy.

Also, I plan to create a graphic novel of the story Malar (Malar is his last name when he was a Death Spectre) of the Purge. I happen to be an illustration major. Although that won't see the light of day for at least another year or so.

So I finished green stuffing the base of the wings. Dunno if you can tell but I tried to make it seem that the wings are busting through the armor. It will probably be easier to tell once he is painted...which starts tomorrow. I'm f'n stoked to paint him up. I might end up painting 1 or 2 plague marines before starting on Malarius just to get some practice in.

  • 6 months later...

Long time no post. Hope to have this guy done by the weekend. Still got tons of work. My new favorite thing to do is flesh. I got the newest how to paint GW stuff book and used the Tomb Kings skin tutorial. I think it worked out great. Too bad I missed the 'eavy metal masterclass book.

Here's some progress on the greaves. I'm going to highlight the greens and the metal so they don't look so muddy. I also included a shot of his butt. Man that was a hard area to do, but I think it came out really cool! Slowly but surely.

With the WYSIWYG rule, he would be a DP. I don't really play the game though, I just like reading the lore, painting minis, and mind larp.

And thanks everyone for the comments :P

Well, I took the left wing off. Okay, I'm lying, I put too much pressure on it and it broke. Instead off fixing it right away, I decide to paint what would be the :cussiest part of the model. I was able to get the area between the wings and on top of the armor! I painted the majority of the guardsman with the exception of his skin and guts. Currently, I am working on the carrion wings, which by the way, are the most frustrating thing to paint. Very easy to miss something on those wings.

FYI - grapefruit pellegrino is the best.
