Kassill
Ok, so my buddy Frank sold his Daemons and got an Eldar army. I have never faced off against Eldar and was wanting to get some general info as to what to watch for, what to gun down, what to get into cc with/or not etc etc. Game is on Monday, points 1850. Any and all tips appreciated brothers! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244483-playing-eldar-for-the-first-time/ Share on other sites
Marmande
Shoot the assaulty, assault the shooty, and try and keep your Rune Priests close enough to at least make him think twice about casting powers. Hellios
Shoot the assaulty, assault the shooty, and try and keep your Rune Priests close enough to at least make him think twice about casting powers. I doubt a ruin priest will make him think twice about casting powers... It might make him think twice about counting on his powers but this depends on what kind of farseer he is running and where he is running them (and for what purpose). So... Take a rune priest of some sort His powers are not important but the ability to stop his farseers from casting a power could make the difference between defeat and a narrow victory. I would take a chooser of the slain... it could be useful for a number of reasons and it is pretty cheap... You can't count on getting your powers off but if you are going to take powers I would choose L. lightning and something to mess with movement. However keeping him alive to try and cancel powers is more important... As has been stated dakka the choppa and chop the dakka. Two common Eldar lists are Mechdar and Jetseer. Jetseer is pretty good at taking punishment from mech heavy armies like guard car park lists but if you stick enough bolter shots and swarm them in combat they should go down. Mechdar is fast and pretty tough but it hasn't got the damage output some armies have and once out of the transports the units are pretty fragile. They often rely on melta and lance for tank busting so heavy armour isn't super-awesome but they can be tougher against mass s6 shots which eldar armies can also pack... I suggest mass S7/8 firepower to stunlock his vehicles if he is running Mechdar and focus on immobilising or destroying the vehicles that are transporting his key units such as fire dragons or dire avengers with farseers. I'm sure GM being an Eldar and SW player will have some good advice. Niiai
I would advice you to serach up Grey Mage's old threads on how to play against them. He is a very old eldar palyer, and those two threads are so through that you do not need more advice. Forté
Take out transports as quick as you see them. One of their biggest advantages is speed. Grey Mage
Any and all tips appreciated brothers! If you have time for a bit of a read, heres a series of articles I wrote on each of the Eldar units and how to combat them. Its not done, as I havent done list strategies etc... and its a bit stale for our GK brethren but I think you might find it useful. Dead Eldar. Guest Drunk Guardian
Bodies. At 1850 I try to make sure to have 60+ power armored figures on the field. Grey Hunters with boltguns and flamers will hit his infantry hard while missile fangs will do a number to his mobility. Shoot the War Walkers first (if he has any). Also, Fire Prisms are extremely dangerous to any infantry out in the open. Try to at least keep them from firing. Don't try to outmaneuver him, and keep your forces together. Don't waste too many points in HQ as no one individual will make an eldar army truly suffer. Its the team that will see you to victory. Kassill
Well, sad to report the Wolves lost. We played the mission where we are on a moon base and the defender (me) is trying to evacuate a high ranking individual to a shuttle. Well, his first turn of shooting ended that idea when he blew up my Land Raider, killing said individual. This then just turned the game into a brutal annihilation game with rending weapons everywhere and all infantry able to jump. My list, which was just a list put together from what I had, was Wolf Priest-RA, WTN, WTT, MB's-140 Rune Priest-LL, MH-100 Wolf Guard-Arjac, 2x Frost Axes, 2x CombiMeltas/Fists, 4x Wolf Claws, 1x TH/SS-610 (I know, big big points sink, but just what I have at current) 2x Grey Hunter Packs-Melta Gun, Wolf Standard, MotW-165 2x Drop Pods 2x Long Fangs-5x Missile Launchers Land Raider Crusader-Multi Melta-260 Predator I know this list really doesn't have a lot of synergy really, but just what I had on hand. His list was (roughly) Autarch (with Swooping Hawks Avatar Banshees Striking Scorpions Fire Dragons 2x Guardian units with heavy weapons Guardian Jetbikes Dire Avengers Warp Spiders Swooping Hawks Reapers Falcon Fire Prism So, first turn I was able to knock out the Fire Prism and the Banshee squad, and moved the LRC with passenger towards the shuttle. His first turn of shooting blew up said LRC, killing the passenger. He then wiped the first podded Grey Hunters with the Avatar. After this it was just a bloody bloody game. He tabled me by turn 6 (only had two drop pods on the board) and he still had: 1 Guardian squad, Reapers, Falcon, Swooping Hawks with Autarch and one Warp Spider. This game gave me a good feel for the Eldar and what to change. Obviously the Mega unit in the LRC is only for games that are pure fun, or Apoc, so leave them at home Units that did well: Grey Hunters-They performed above average, slaying anything in their path. Downfall, not nearly enough of them. (Don't worry, I have more in the mail) Long Fangs-They did great knocking down the Fire Prism, and murdering units like the Striking Scorpions before they got to assault anything. Downfall, Swooping Hawks. So, like one brother mentioned, more bodies is what I need. Plans for next list (when I get the models) will be 4 or more Grey Hunter packs in Pods supported by Long Fangs from range. Vehicles don't last against Eldar it seems. eyeslikethunder
Sorry to hear about your loss. yeah your list does read a bit like not what to take against eldar. Lots points on HQ's and LR's not enough troops in light transports. Which is a shame when its all you got. . Get the extra GH's and some rhino/Rbacks would help as well. Hope you enjoy better luck next time Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/244483-playing-eldar-for-the-first-time/#findComment-2956777 Share on other sites
